Great place to get mosses ground covers and crypto's owner is friendly and helpfull got some Dwarf grass for free!!! All plants in tank are from this store.
My name is Catherine posting under my husbands profile, and I have become somewhat of a frequent buyer from Aquatic Plants SA. I absolutely love the incredibly wide variety of stock, I have managed to find plants that are not usually available in SA from them, which for me is hugely exciting and means my scape looks somewhat different to other South African scapes. The pricing is very good, even on the more rare species, prices seem to be kept low. Ordering and delivery process is always a breeze and they keep you updated on the whole process. Also, they are very willing to give advise and answer any questions, Hettie replied to my questions after 9pm at night on their whatsapp profile. Although I have only made use of their aquarium plants thus far, I will definitely be purchasing their pond plants too in the near future. Ordered a couple of plants from the team to setup my first planted tank. The plants that I received are absolutely stunning and in beautiful health. After planting, the plants are doing amazing, there was minimal melt from the crypts, the stems and dwarf waterlily are growing so well. A big thanks to the team at Aquatic Plants SA for the amazing quality and awesome service.
I am very happy with my last order. Was quite a big order and all the plants were bigger than I expected. All plants are healthy and is doing great in my tank. Looking forward to getting moss on my next order. Also dont be shy to ask for assistance if you dont know what to order. Dont order blindly if you dont know the plants. They are great at giving advise and easy to deal with.
Large selection of plants, they also stock plants that are not usually available in SA. Great quality and the ordering/delivery process is a breeze. Will definitely buy from them again.
Great people, great variety, however! The portion sizes that you receive are NOT the same portion sizes that they advertise online, I have provided pictures below for reference. The first picture is what they advertise on their site and the second picture is what they actually gave me when I came to collect. Decide for yourself whether the advertised portion is the same as the one you would end up receiving. photos of Bucephalandra Brownie Blue that I ordered. If you know about planted aquariums, you know how much Bucephalandra can cost for a normal portion. So receiving almost less than half the portion of Buce from them when any regular store would sell a full portion for the same price it is very disappointing. But at the same time, where does one find such a variety of Bucephalandra in Johannesburg other than at Aquatic Plats SA? So, to avoid this issue in the future I would ask them to send me pictures of the exact portion size that I would be receiving BEFORE PLACING MY ORDER, so that I atleast know when I'm paying full price for half the plant. I understand if the photos used to advertise are mixed photos from supplier and then photos of the actual stock, but how is a customer supposed to know which is which? Must we smell it ? If there was a photo that had "Portion Size", or something similar written/typed on the actual image, then one could know exactly what they're paying for instead of guessing and hoping for the best. P.S. I'm still busy cleaning out the Black Beard Algae from my Christmas Moss that I picked up today. I unboxed the moss at about 4pm, it is now 12am. And now I need to clean out the Buce too, because I found 2 species of moss that I DID NOT ORDER, inside the clump of Buce. Found some bits of Java moss and either Subwassertang or Pelia, I would never intentionally plant these because well, its my tank and I'm building a specific aesthetic/environment. The Buce had se black algae aswell but not nearly as bad as on the moss. My Order: I purchased 2 tubs of Christmas Moss and 2 tubs of Bucephalandra Brownie Blue only, I would expect to receive 2 healthy tubs of Christmas Moss and Bucephalandra Brownie Blue ONLY. Conclusion: The Brownie Blue portion of Buce was way smaller than expected and contains living/growing biological matter of other plants that I DID NOT ORDER inside the tub. The Christmas moss was very unhealthy, was in pieces when I unboxed it each piece no bigger than 4cm if you're lucky enough to find a healthy piece that size, most pieces were tiny bits and the moss was pretty much infested with Black Beard Algae and some other strange black mold spots, that I obviously needed to clean out before placing the plants in my aquarium and then had to throw away the rest because it was unusable. So! When ordering/purchasing from Aquatic Plants SA be aware that 1, the portion sizes are small. 2, you will definitely need to clean your plants thoroughly before placing them in your tank to atleast insure 'some' sort of quality control.
Wide variety of aquatic plants at the best price. They have a great online store delivery is exceptional. Plants always arrive in great condition. Keep an eye out on their specials and new plants. You can even buy a gift card Credit for a loved one at discounted prices. Communication is quick and ordering is super easy. They also have community char groups for any questions and this keeps you informed all the time.

Great selection and service! The only thing I would like to see is the option for a cardboard box for delivery instead of polystyrene. I'm sure my plants would arrive in good condition and we can save the polystyrene from the landfill.
