I went there for choir. It was clean and well maintained. The class had relative good sizes and everything was in order and there is sufficient space as the hallway and halls were quite big. The students that were there that night were well behaved and kind towards me. It's a relatively good school

Quam optime - "Better than the best"
This is my first time experience with Bhs as my daughter is going to do Grade 8 in 2019. I was very impressed with the effective administration, cleanliness and the staff in general. Looking forward to the best and challenging 5 years with the school.
I have great friends there. The teachers work hard and are good at their jobs. They offer great extra-curricular courses. And they are very cautious about Covid-19.
Loved attending BHS!
I love that school and I really want to go there
From the onset this school’s reputation precedes it but once you get here you become slightly let down. In terms of teachers there is a clear dichotomy here - there are the ones that teach, inspire, mentor and guide their students with artful skill and then there are those that fail to - in every aspect of the word - teach. Sport is prioritized at times over the actual education aspect - more correctly Rugby alone as most other sports especially football are neglected. The first team football team has no league, sponsored kit and soccer fest was even stopped while Rugby teams travel to Durban and wear kits with numbers and names emblazoned on them. The rules here are very oppressive. Forced haircuts on students who don’t meet the requirements of whichever teacher is doing the guesswork of what the hair rules are on that particular day. Blazers are to be worn in and out of school regardless of the situation or weather. Sports clothes are to be changed in and out of on time regardless of the whole school being serviced by only one functioning albeit festering bathroom at a time. Despite the “zero-tolerance” policy here drugs cigarettes, alcohol etc. are also in abundance and those without a fully developed self-control being literally every child to step into the school will at some point be exposed to them. The school does have its merits. Academically, individual students who make up for what some of their teachers lack in self-study and extra lessons with the better teachers and outside school perform well. There are a wide range of extra mural activities to help develop oneself and you can form bonds with people you never expected that will serve as your lifeline eventually. Will I miss this place - probably not. Will I miss some of the people at this place and what the school was and is supposed to represent - definitely. As someone who turned down a few scholarship offers to attend Benoni High I would say if you find yourself in my situation take the other scholarships. Otherwise Benoni High is your next best bet.
