Specialised Education for Special Needs Children
The South African Schools national curriculum strives towards inclusive education for all our learners, however as a SACE registered teacher, with 23 years teaching experience of which 11 are with special needs learners, I have realised the benefit of a more personal learning environment for special needs children. Bernside School caters specifically for children who have developmental delays, ADD/ADHD and general special needs.
The number of learners per class is low to enable individual attention. Each learner is given work according to their ability and works at their own pace. Creative teaching methods are used to achieve the best results from the learners and to make their school day enjoyable.
Bernside strives to offer a fun, nurturing and loving environment, where a holistic approach to each child’s unique educational needs, enables them to reach their full potential. With small classes and a personal and flexible approach, children will develop at their own pace, in a safe, non-threatening environment.
