A gem of a bookstore, part of the beautiful colonial-era Rand Club building. Great selection of books about Joburg & by African writers in particular. Browse here and then go for coffee in the club the bar & restaurant downstairs open to non-members
The moment I stepped into the shop, I knew right away that my love for books will be rejuvenated. The staff took me back to my days at high school. I felt the presence of my African Writers in there and I was so smitten at the display of my favourite books.
The children's section could have a lot more books, but we loved the aesthetics of the place.
A book store that supports and promotes black authors. The books here are predominantly written by black authors, there's current affairs, history and thoughts, autobiographies. You can find books based on black consciousness. Poetry, fiction, non fiction, second hand books and childrens books. Also every Saturday from 10:30 there's story telling for Kids while you can have your espresso or coffee with a muffin. Coolest place in City Central
Great place but still waiting for a price list till now.
It's a literary heaven. A place to be. The atmosphere is great and the service is really good. The coffee shop is also an appreciated bonus.
Myles Heneke guided us through the inner city of Johannesburg telling the story of books and of booksellers, of city development and of Bridge Books’ engagement in the neighbouring society. It was deeply interesting and informed, conveyed with enthusiasm and good story telling, and it was a wonderful introduction to the city of Johannesburg, a «must do» to those of us loving books and the world surrounding them. A great tour, Myles!
The poster I'm holding has one of my favorite Cartoons Kwezi coming straight out of South Africa, the narrative is Just breath taking, the dialogues are deep like that African story from a Shamaan under a Golden tree; the characters are very interesting the more New ones pop up the mysterious the being. You can only find such stories at bridge books these Cartoons are just the tip of the Iceberg, compared to the Amount of rich African stories that are built in this bookshop, they're depth is part of bridge book's walls- for every book you remove off the shelf it is a life time keeper.
New location not too far from the previous one. This time right next to the Rand Club. They still have Saturday story time for children. As always a very impressive selection African books and a good second hand section as well.
This is a cozy bookstore in the hub of the city. It's a retailer focused on local books. So, if you'd like a change of pace from Exclusive Books and such, this is the spot to check out. It has a very open big-roof design which makes it very pleasant and aesthetically pleasing for photos. The books are priced reasonably and there are events such as book launches hosted here. These book launches are very intimate because of the size of the store, making them worth checking out if you'd like to pose questions to a local author. All-in-all, I would definitely recommend checking it out. The GPS might seem like it got you a little lost, but just look for the massive glass door and you'll be set.
