I rented a car from Britz for a recent trip, but unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Despite being promised that there would be no issues with the car's battery, we encountered problems on the second day of our trip. We had to waste an entire day waiting for a service representative to come and assist us. Moreover, the tents on the roof of the car were not waterproof, and it rained heavily during our trip. This resulted in us having to cut our trip short since we did not want to sleep in wet beds. Our experience with the car was terrible, and we did not enjoy the trip at all. As a customer of Britz, I expected better service and a well-maintained car. However, to my disappointment, I have not received any response from the company regarding my complaints until today. I urge the company to take appropriate measures to ensure that such issues do not occur in the future. I request that the company provide me with a suitable compensation or refund to make up for the inconvenience caused during my trip.
We recently had the pleasure of renting a car from a car rental company, but unfortunately my experience was not very positive. Firstly, I discovered that the car's battery was dead, which meant that I had to waste valuable time waiting for a mechanic to fix the problem. As if that wasn't enough, I later discovered that the tent was leaky and it was pouring rain during my camping trip. This further worsened my experience. Overall, I was very disappointed with my stay at this car rental company. The dead battery and leaky tent had a very negative impact on my vacation, and I cannot recommend this company. I hope that this will help the car rental company improve their services and provide a better experience for future customers.
The Hilux was great, and didn't miss a beat on an epic 8400km trip through SA, Namibia, Botswana and Eswatini. A couple of minor problems which were resolved efficiently by friendly service from Keenan, and on the whole the rig was ideal, albeit getting on in years. I had tyre envy a few times as this was a weak point, and if I could make one strong recommendation to Britz it would be to supply decent AT tyres instead of high mileage road tyres.
We rented a 4x4 Toyota with a tent on the roof, storage with a fridge, chairs, table, gas barrel, sleeping bags, blankets etc. We rented the car in Windhoek Namibia and drove to Cape Town over 11 days. The amenities and the car worked perfectly throughout the trip and the service in Windhoek and Cape Town was great! We highly recommend renting with Britz.
CAR LOST ITS BREAKS AND CATCH ON FIRE!!! Last year we rented a truck with Britz/THRSA/Maui and completely lost all brakes at the freeway while doing 110km/h. We were quite lucky that this happened on a bend as we were able to lower the gears to slow the vehicle and pull off the road. Upon alighting from the vehicle, we observed smoke coming out of the bonnet. We quickly opened the hood, only to find that the CAR WAS ON FIRE. Luckily and thankfully, we were able to out the fire using the extinguisher provided with the vehicle. The company’s support to assist us in resolving this situation e.g., getting a tow truck and us to a safe place was overall very limited and much slower than it should have been given the severity. We were not only left to get ourselves and our belongings to an unsafe location, but also the Britz/THRSA truck. This resulted in us hitchhiking to a hotel, which I understand is extremely dangerous thing to do in South Africa, having to find a tow truck, return to the place where the truck was and bring it to the hotel we found. They did not return any of our money as later they came up with an “investigation” stating that the car “didn’t really lost breaks” and that they had no responsibility on the issue. On top of this, they charged my credit card double of what they receipt said and said there was a “mistake in your rate”.
We had a very disappointing rental with Britz in Cape Town and I would advise anyone to look for an alternative rental company! The car and the equipment are completely outdated and we had water leaking into the tents during normal rain. After complaining about the leaking tents Britz referred to “Force Majeure” and said that they can’t help us. There was also water getting into the closed trunk since the sealings are outdated as well.. Even after the rental our claims are rejected completely and Britz isn’t ready to compromise at all. All in all the service and the quality of the cars is a total cheek for the price they are asking! ____________ The answer received from Britz is ridiculous unfortunately. It seems that the many, many complaining customers with leaking tents here have ALL set up the tents incorrectly.. Be warned and book somewhere else!
Unfortunately cannot recommend Britz. Although the vehicle was clean and the utensils fairly decent for our trip, we realised only later on that the spare tire we had to use was not pumped up less than 1 bar, the jack to change the tire not up to standard to lift a Toyota Hilux and the spanner was also cracked. We had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and only by chance a Sanparks ranger came by - we were lucky to say the least, since we could not have changed the tire with the equipment given to us. After having rented the vehicle through Drive South Africa back in 2020 and having to cancel due to Covid, we were given a voucher to use instead by Trevor Everts, who was helpful. Our initial trip would have been 10 days, which was cut short to 8 days in December 2022, due to the rental agency scamming us out of Rand 7000 more for a shorter trip. Bernice Windell knew we had a voucher, which was going to expire soon and thus took full advantage of the situation. I know and fully understand that people need to make a living and I am more than willing to pay slightly more, but the attitude and behaviour was really not up to standard of both agencies. It seemed as if they were colluding. Of course the manager at Britz Keenan tended to our concerns after having returned the vehicle. He suggested to send an email to him at Britz and they would contact Drive South Africa to arrange for a refund. I did not expect a full refund - but not even an answer to my mail with all the documents after nearly 1 month is not good. I would suggest to be wary with this company and would not recommend them. Be cautious when renting a vehicle here.
We rented a Toyota Hilux for 2 weeks and drove it into Namibia, after 8 days we had some problems with the car, which offcourse can happen. In no-time we had ourselves a new one on the way and got excellent advice and guidance in what to do. Duncan and Mohammed where amazingingly friendly and helpfull when returning the car. We rent a Toyota Hilux single cabin with rooftent. We got a excellent car, during 4 weeks and more as 5K driving not a single problem! Sleeping is quite comfortable and the camping gear is complete. Communication with the compagny is easy and fast. I defenitely can recommend Britz!
It was a great time with the Britz 4x4. We slept well in the roof top tent, the Britz Service was very friendly and comfortable. We will rent the next 4x4 again with Britz.
