Cecilia Makiwane Hospital is a large, provincial, government funded hospital situated in the Mdantsane township of East London, Eastern Cape in South Africa. It is a tertiary teaching hospital and forms part of the East London Hospital Complex with Frere Hospital. It is named after Cecilia Makiwane, the first African woman to become a professional nurse in South Africa.HistoryChief Mqalo Health Minister of Ciskei renamed the Mdantsane Hospital to Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in 1977 to commemorate, Cecilia Makiwane, the first Black nurse in South Africa. On 30 April 1982, the Department of Posts and Telecommunications of the Republic of Ciskei honored her with a philatelic stamp and a first day cover, detailing her life.Departments and servicesThe hospital's departments include: Trauma and Emergency department, Paediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, ARV clinic for HIV/AIDS in adults and children, Anaesthetics, Paediatric Surgery, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Ophthalmology and burns unit. Dont care bout their patients just like the rest of the hospitals around South African my girlfriend was transferred from Adelaide hospital to Cecilia Makiwane to give birth now shes done n discharge now the nurse say she must take a taxi home, Adelaide is far from East London very weak service now she must stay there till whenever a ambulance comes to Adelaide or else i must pay the taxi R1050 to bring her home
Ward F3 - the toilets are still out of order and makes is dangerous for the patients also, because the one is leaking so much that there are towels on the floor. We got there yesterday for the first time, very impressed with the service and overall cleanliness of the hospital. Very thankful that they could assist my husband, he is still there and will be there for quite some time. He had his first operation today, epidural, came back into his room, fell off the bed and couldn’t get back onto the bed. The other patient called a staff member to come and asssist him, when she got there, she had a very bad attitude and told him to hop back into bed, and this just after his lost half of his leg? Not on!
I'm so impressed by this new Cecelia, the service is top tier. The staff is friendly, it's indeed not different from a private hospital. I arrived at 6 am and I didn't wait for hours to open a file. The patient was assisted quickly just that Dr's take time to arrive.
The hospital is excellent and do tours are also. The nurses are also ok . But toilets are broken no water running to flush once used by patients. F3 WARD IT SEEMS toilets are broken and hope they will fix soon. Other then that service is ok but can improve alot more. Really
Horrific! We brought in a patient to be admitted to the psychiatric ward, she is in a condition where not one can handle her, we have to wait in ward 13 which is a sort of reception, waiting together with extremely violent patients. There is no order we have been here for hours on end and still waiting. She had ran out 4 times already and counting
Best hospital ive even been in. Everyone is extremely nice and helpfull. They are taking such great care of my twin babies. And even took very good care with me as well. I cant complain about anything. From the food to the stay to the care and people. Everything is fantastic & neat. I will refer anyone to this hospital. Truely greatful that i ended up here.
This Hospital should be closed because all the employees from reception to the hr are incompetent. the staff is rude and talk to people like trash. i am very disappointed at the level of service. When the put in their cv's they say they are people friendly but that's not what they do once they get the job.
Great facility for the local community
This hospital's staff lack professionalism I think all of them from reception to nurses including doctors they do not want to help ppl I was there on the 29 November at about 9 o'clock and we were helped the following day on the 30 November 2018 at around 14:30 poor service indeed
No different to private hospital service is good and friendly nurses indeed
