We just returned from a fabulous stay at Chitwa Chitwa! Saw the Big 5 numerous times plus a cheetah on the hunt and lions after a kill. Room was gorgeous, spacious, clean. We loved sitting on the deck watching the animals come down to the watering hole. Food was great and dining experiences were unique. Daniel and Beth were our guide and tracker. They are awesome -- super knowledgeable, passionate about the wildlife, and funny. Staff goes above and beyond to make your experience truly one of a kind. 10/10!! Planning to return soon :
Weekend stay @Chitwa. Incredible scenery made possible by Chitwa Chitwa. Truly an unforgettable experience in the heart of Sabi Sands. Our guide on our Safari drive was exceptionally knowledgeable of the patterns and habits of the animals. We were also fortunate enough to have seen a beautiful leopard on the second day. We also had drinks next tot he water. Unreal feeling being surrounded by the bush and having a cold beer. To the staff, thank you for making this trip even more special. Till next time.
I just saw a review on here from 2 weeks ago and I could have copied and pasted it. We just got back a week ago and had the pleasure of working with Beth and Daniel and they were amazing. The accommodations were awesome and the staff at the hotel we're all great. Daniel and Beth were super knowledgeable and very passionate about what they do and work outstanding as a team. We learned a lot from them and just enjoyed their company during the off time as well. I will make sure to recommend the lodge and the staff to any of my friends that are interested in a safari. We miss Daniel and Beth already!
Magical.!! It might just be the greatest trip we’ve ever taken in our lives. The staff were very professional and accommodating. The lodge was beautiful. And the animals!! The lake nearby was filled with hippos. We saw everything you would hope to see on a safari and more. Our Guide and tracker were amazing. I can’t express what an unforgettable experience this was for all of us. Our group was aged 75 to 11 and everything in between. And we all agreed that this place could not have been better! Chitwa Chitwa holds a special place in our hearts. We can’t wait to go back.
Simply amazing—was the best experience. Food was incredible as were the game drives. Dylan and Ranson were the best guides. The hippos in the lake outside the lodge were amazing to see time after time. Would love to go back!
Great lodge and amazing experience. We stayed here for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the lodge and the game drives. The staff takes really good care of their guests from the start to the end of the stay. Highly recommend this lodge in Sabi Sands!Rooms: 5/5
We stayed at Chitwa Chitwa during our Honeymoon and it's by far and away the best holiday experience of my life. I struggle a bit with the whole concept of luxury travel but the staff here are such good fun shout out to Harley and Moses, that it doesn't feel at all pretentious. Cannot recommend highly enough.Rooms: 5/5
Top line summary: - excellent lodge / location directly on a watering hole in beautiful sabi sands - rooms are amazing stayed in charlsey suite, perfect location / view, great for 2 couples or parents + kids - Great ranger, thanks so much Deon! - Food quality was embarrassing for a luxury safari of this price range, to the point where we did not bother with meals toward the end Detailed review: Visited chitwa chitwa with my wife and parents in August 2022 for 4 nights. While have been on many SA luxury safaris, this was our first in Sabi Sands. Sabi Sands absolutely lived up to the reputation and is absolutely worth visiting on an ultraluxury safari. Chitwa Chitwa had a great "hard product," meaning the rooms, lodge, ranger/game drive - all without match. Charlsey suite likely the best rooms we have ever stayed in with 2 full master rooms ensuite, incredible showers/baths, large private deck with plunge pool with a wide unencumbered view of the watering hole, and a nice living space in between the rooms. Should also note the cleaning staff were excellent and tidied up basically every time we left the room. We had great sightings of 20+ elephants bathing right in front of our room. The lodge itself and grounds are beautiful and are designed in a very special fashion such that there are completely enmeshed in the surrounding bush. Animals constantly wandering around the property, and the lodge itself is also on the watering hole and is great just for sitting and watching the animals. Hippos and birds constantly around the watering hole. Our ranger - Deon - was excellent, as are the actual safari vehicles at chitwa uncovered. Deon was the most experienced ranger we have had, elevating the safari drives in a spectacular fashion. Our drives were exciting, educational, and beautiful. Have never seen this many leopards and saw our first kill warthog. Special mention to the 3 leopards we followed for ages on our last day, never seen anything like this. Deon was also nice enough to take us on a walking safari, which I can highly recommend. A large part of any holiday for us is the catering / culinary experience. At other expensive lodges we have been to, the food has been a highlight of the trip and that is the vision we had been told to expect with chitwa. We noticed almost immediately the food was mediocre at best to bland/bad at worst. Breakfast was a repeat every day, and the lunches / dinners were uninspired and boring. This was to the point where mid-trip I went and spoke to the kitchen if they could just give us plain tuna sandwiches for lunch. When we asked our waiter what the issue was, he let slip that the main chef was on holiday for 2 weeks, which seemed a strange answer. When I followed up later that day with the manager, she told me the chef had quit the week before, and apologized many times for the food quality. Essentially a trainee was running a full industrial kitchen, and they did not notify guests of any issues. I raised the issue that it was strange the waiter had misled us, and asked if they had any other complaints regarding the food - was informed multiple other guests were also complaining. The manager was extremely sorry and embarrassed - she said the owners were aware of the situation and were very upset. I asked to submit a complaint and to please have some follow up, but was never contacted by chitwa after we left. Was strange to have such a quality physical lodge and excellent guide paired with such sub-par food. With a price tag as high as chitwa, the owners aware of the situation, the management so embarrassed, and complaints submitted by guests - would have expected a follow-up. I imagine there will be a response to this post, but we have received no follow up or remedy privately from chitwa.
Chitwa Chitwa was the first game lodge I stayed at in the Sabi Sands and they set the standard for luxury safaris. We saw eight leopards in 3 days and were truly blown away with the entire experience. This is bucket list stuff!
By far the most amazing getaway myself and my fiancé have been on. Lovely, helpful staff and a total GEM location. If I could give 6 stars I would.Rooms: 5/5
