Description

WELCOME
TO DINOKENG
Dinokeng is a destination that captures the essence of Africa. A place where you can wake up to a dazzling sunrise as lions roar nearby; go on a game drive to see elephants slaking their thirst at their favourite watering hole, while the emblematic call of the African fish eagle echoes across the sky.

Watch giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a dozen other wildlife species come parading by. Wander down shady historic avenues of oak and jacaranda trees through a classic mining village. Or visit unique restaurants and bars that blend historic style with innovative modern mosaics and sculptures.

Dinokeng is a unique jewel waiting to be discovered in Gauteng. A short trip from the city and with plenty of visitor attractions and experiences, Dinokeng is the diamond on your doorstep.

Meaning "a place of rivers", Dinokeng is a region in northern Gauteng rich in natural, cultural and historical heritage sites.

Dinokeng's three major tourist hubs are the historic town of Cullinan, where the world’s largest rough gem-quality diamond was discovered in 1905; the Roodeplaat Dam, a birders paradise; and the Dinokeng Game Reserve, Gauteng's only free-roaming Big Five reserve.

Travellers are invited to come stay and play in Dinokeng, which offers an experience of rolling African bushveld, adventure activities to get your pulse racing, fine dining to satisfy the most particular palate, and a rich and diverse history.

What can undoubtedly be included in Dinokeng's list of “best things” are the many passionate people and enterprising entrepreneurs who live here. Come meet Dinokeng, or host an event here, and experience the region while contributing to the development of the people who live and work here.

The lodge we stayed at was just sooo beautiful. What made our stay even more amazing was being woken up by the sounds of lions roaring at 3am! We booked a guided game drive and were incredibly lucky to see lions.. We've done a few self drives before and haven't had much luck with sightings of the big5.
We had a lovely self-drive around the reserve. Didn't see any big 5 but lots of birdlife and buck. A 4x4 makes some part of the park more accessible. We had lunch at a lovely picnic spot along the river Bank. I would recommend camping if you want to have a chance to encounter the Big 5 as you'll have more time to explore the park.
Promised Big 5 only saw a Big 1. Rhinos…. That was that…. Yes they do have sone wild animals but I don’t think the big 5 is in there. But the reserve is not crowded so very pleasant in that way. I don’t think I will make a trip that way anytime soon…
Lovely game reserve only 1 hour from Sandton. Stunning drives but unfortunately not many sightings. We enjoyed the 4x4 routes and the well maintained picnic sites.
The map book is great, easy to understand and navigate which is essential for self-drive game drives As with an self-drive game drive it's just your luck as to what you see. We drove for over 6 hours and didn't cover the whole reserve. Value for money.
Did the 6:30 am game drive and it was very interesting! Spotted most of the big 5. I highly recommend this game reserve for a great wildlife experience.
Did 2 game drives here with 4 work colleges organised through Morekuri Safaris, which is where we were staying. Big thanks to our guide Andrew, who took us for both drives. He was amazing, we saw so many animals including a lion with her kill. There’s nothing Andrew doesn’t know, Including some quite bad jokes that just added to the drive!!. We all had such a great time. Safe to say we will be back.
We love the self drive, where we can just wonder through the reserve at our own pace discovering animals at every turn. You will need a 4-wheel drive or for the normal route or a car with high clearance
Such a bad experience We were in the park for a whole day and we saw extremely few animals. It looks like the park is empty. The « roads » are very bad, not maintained at all. We got stuck and they made us wait for more than an hour for help. They said people often get stuck there but it doesn’t seem like they are doing something about that.
Lots of fun, kid friendly, animals are friendly.. very clean and well looked after. Will definitely go again Playground: Kids are kept entertained Restrooms: Very clean Dog-friendliness: There was people with their small dogs Picnic area: Braai facilities by the pool as well as tables under shade
