Far East Rand Hospital

No parking for family of patients, parking only reserved for staff, the casualty ward smells like a filthy toilet, a long queue of patients who've been waiting for a Dr who's apparently assisting in theatre

This is the worst service you can get. Yesterday i took my son to for an arm injury. Just need x-rays. We arrived at 2pm and sat waiting for 8 hours with nothing being done. We watched how the staff sat on their phones and walked around doing nothing. We watched a man pass away in the passage and the staff had no idea the passing happened. We watched a man coming in with a head injury bleeding badly and the didn't help. The patients jumped in to get bandages to cover his head and ran to find a doctor to assist. Another man came in with stab wounds and he waited till the public had to ask to just cover the wounds. There was blood and vomit on the floor not being cleaned up. At 10pm last night I wanted to take my son home and they refused to let him go. Patients were treated like prisoners. The security, and sisters and the Dr from night staff were really rude.I will never recommend this hospital to anyone. If it was possible you would have no stars. This is Far East Rand Jail/hostage centre.

I know you don't get to hear this alot. But I would like to thank you for the help with my son. The ANW night staff that was in from the 8-9th of May you are stars. LoL your patience with crazy us when in pain is admirable. Thank you. From now on I will never take what people say about nurses, all they said was not true. You were stars thank you again.

HORRIBLE SERVICE My sister is currently pregent 9 months along. We though she was going into labour so we went to Far East Rand. Let me start listing what my sister went through... 1. The nurses were arguing which one will help my sister. 2. They never wanted to help her, or even explain that what she had was a false alarm, the just said she is faking and must go home. 3. The nurses showed no sympathy and were very cold. We were forced to go to another hospital in Germinston were we were greeted 2:00 in the morning with a smile, they helped her took her bags and wheelchair'ed her up to the maternity ward. They explained everything to her and even picked up a bladder infection. Security went and got updates for us. They were really helpful in everyway Comparing the difference between Far East Rand and Germiston, I will rather go to Germiston General anyday

I would like to give the Maternity Wards and all the staff that work there a 5 Star!! I had my first baby there and they took care of us Thank you so much for everything. They give you food and something to drink within the day until night. They are friendly,understandable and caring. I would recommend anyone that is giving birth to go to this hospital as my experience was amazing. The only thing I didn't like, was being alone and my boyfriend couldn't be there for birth, but they were only still following Covid protocols. Other than that Thanks once again you guys are amazing

On the 09.10.2022.We arrived at the hospital at 16:00 in the afternoon my mother in law possibly had a stroke. We waited until 23:28 for her to be helped. It's pathetic service from a hospital. How can someone wait 7 hours to be helped. They are rude when you ask something and do not want to assist. A lady had to speak to the security and afterwards he assisted me by tell me my mother in law was still not helped. It's really disgrace.

The are a lot of great reviews regarding the maternity ward and I would not know the experience but all I can tell you is , who is running the emergency unit care or the medical Ward at night should step down! On the 16th of September 2022 I took my sick uncle to the hospital and we got there at exactly 21:00pm. We parked outside and went to request his file. We pushed him in a wheelchair to the medical Ward while we waited for his file. I got in the medical Ward with him and told the doctor that I've just placed his file on the table. He requested that I wait in the waiting area while they attend to him. We sat in the waiting area from 21:36pm to 23:45pm. I was worried and stood up to find out what was going on. MLUNGISI ISAAC NDWANDE which is one of the security guards told me that it's a restricted area and I'm not allowed go any further. I understood the protocol and it was observed. I kindly asked him to go to the medical Ward and get me feedback from the doctor. He came back after 5 minutes and told me that the patient "was not yet attended to!" I was furious and anybody reading this would understand why!!! Every public hospital is governed by the Batho Pele principles and the turn around time to attend to the client is stipulated in those principles. I couldn't understand why he was not attended to . When I was in the medical ward with him there were exactly nine patients! Remember when Phulosong hospital had the same problem a few years back!? They changed their leadership and look at where they are today , thriving and growing , providing the best care in public hospitals in the East Rand or perhaps Gauteng. That's something I can't say for Far East Rand Hospital , they provide the opposite! This is a cry for help: Our community can't receive such ill treatment and we turn a blind eye and look away. We demand that they be treated with respect and dignity. If the person in charge fails to make amendments to their policies then let him or her step down and allow someone with the capacity to turn things around! As if that's not enough, have you seen the hygiene of the hospital? The toilet next to the waiting area has had no taps for the past few months and them. Honestly this is absurd!
