Description

At present Graeme College caters for just over 600 boys from Grade 1 to Grade 12, as well as offering an Enrichment Year.
It offers its students the rare opportunity of beginning and completing the first 12 years of their education in the same setting. This structure has resulted in a unique atmosphere at the school.
Graeme College has developed into a close-knit "family" school which has grown and flourished with the "new" South Africa, combining modern educational trends with the standards, values and traditions built up during an existence now spanning three centuries.
With the exception of the Foundation Phase (Grades 1, 2 and 3), there are two classes per grade.
We use excursions and outdoor education as a means of fostering a spirit of cooperation and tolerance within the grades and consequently each group from Grade 4 upwards is expected to embark on one major expedition per year. Emphasis is laid on commitment, hard work, involvement, sportsmanship and the positive development of all who pass through its doors. The College's motto “Virtute et Opera” (through courage and hard work) is the cornerstone of all activities.
We also attempt to foster an atmosphere where respect for the rights of the individual are paramount, while encouraging the individual to appreciate that he has certain duties and obligations to the society of which he is part.

Mission

To develop every pupil and teacher to the maximum of his/her potential in:
scholarship through academic endeavour
to inculcate sound moral and spiritual values
to consolidate a positive self-concept and respect for others
to promote individuality and independence of thought
character and personality growth
involvement and performance in
sport
cultural activities and
community service
To involve pupils, teachers, parents and Old Boys in all school activities.

I am a person whose very observant and have done some studies on racism, from what I have seen there, I can say that there's subtle racism going on there that the workers are experiencing. 1. I don't understand why in all the senior positions in the school are occupied by white people only. Black people are doing the jobs such as cleaners and kitchen stuff as cookers. 2. All the Black mothers working at the hostel are given English names, for what? I find this very problematic. 3. During our stay there the Black mothers who are working at the hostel were not allowed to enter the kitchen or to talk to the chefs in the kitchen.
Was an old boy. Have a question. How can the commentators on the rugby on channel 216 sports channel who are incompetant. Continue calling us Graemes College and getting the scores wrong be allowed to carry on
great school and the staff and children welcome you with respect and the boys are always good looking.

It is a great school sport wise and academic wise they encourage boys to participate in different sports such as rugby, tennis, cricket & squash I know this personally because my son goes to school here
This is an excellent boys school with huge fields and a good hostel. The academic performance is consistently of a high standard and a range of cultural activities attract positive attention.
The school is very nice.
