Description

Kingswood, founded in 1894, is an independent, boarding and day school that caters for girls and boys from pre-school to bridging year (post matric). It is very much a family school and has children from all over South Africa, as well as a number from various other countries. 73% of pupils, however, come from the Eastern Cape, giving the school its rich, local heritage.

Set in beautiful grounds, Kingswood offers its pupils a well-rounded education, with wonderful facilities available in both the academic and sporting spheres. While all the traditional subjects and sports are offered, there are many other less well-known activities such as model engineering, rock climbing and Toastmasters to keep the pupils busy.

The College is very proud to be a Methodist School but welcomes children of many different denominations and faiths. The Grade 12 pupils write the Independent Examination Board (IEB) matriculation examinations and the school has consistently gained excellent results. Information Technology is taught in the well-equipped IT Centre, and pupils have access to e-mail and internet facilities. Kingswood is renowned for its Music School, which has won international and national competitions in the past.

We had nice reception when we went for our son's assessment. Nice food and wow I love eating. During orientation every building and sport field were shown and their history properly unpacked to us. It's a place to go for best education, soft and hard skills . IQ and EQ for learning is found in Kingswood College
Being at Kingswood prepared me for life in so many ways. I felt welcomed, and to my surprise, enjoyed boarding school having been a day-girl at my previous school in CT. The teaching we received was excellent. The range of extra-murals was interesting - art, choir, debating and plays. One of the things I remember most clearly is the atmosphere that most of the teachers created - relaxed, but also productive. There was a high standard academically, and I presume there still is. From the descriptions given to me by friends at other schools in CT at that time, one difference which stood out for me about Kingswood was that when someone was struggling academically, for example as a result of having a learning problem such as ADHD or a difficult situation in their families, my impression was that they weren't belittled by a teacher, or by other pupils, but rather given encouragement and discrete support. In those days learning difficulties were often misinterpreted as pupils being unintelligent or having a "bad attitude". We just seemed to be accepted for who we were as people. In the subjects where we had discussions, they did not stay rigidly on a narrow syllabus, but had more range and depth than that. There was generally a positive attitude to life - a "down-to-earth", natural way of being together, which I still associate with being amongst people in the Eastern Cape! I literally don't remember experiencing anyone seeming to think that they were better than the rest of us in some way. That's pretty unusual in society I'd say! I think being at Kingswood also gave me the opportunity to learn how to take full responsibility for my learning - a really helpful skill at university, where there's far less external pressure to be self-disciplined and keep motivated to reach one's career goals. At 'Varsity there's generally far less individual attention available. These learning skills were primarily given to us by one particular teacher helped us become more aware of how to prepare for tests, exams, plan and complete our projects in time, write essays etc. Later in my life when I was a lecturer, I passed on those skills to my students, so that they could do maximum justice to their ability. I subsequently learned that many pupils had a 'special connection' with that teacher, in a relaxed way - because he was non-judgemental and compassionate, in a practical way. Not every school has someone like that. Our sports master was also able to particularly "click" with us, and had a wonderful sense of humour. I got the impression at our reunion a few years ago that Kingswood is still a happy place, and still has high standards. The learners seemed to wear their uniforms with pride. The facilities are phenomenal. That may sound over the top but seriously they are excellent. It must still be a priviledge to go there. I was and am really grateful to have been a part of Kingswood during a pivotal time in my life, those final years of high school.
We were obviously very nervous to start Kingswood coming from Kenya but our fears were very quickly put to rest after we arrived to such warmth and care for each student. Apart from missing home my daughter has made many friends and is extremely happy. She keeps telling me how caring all students of all ages are and how easy it is to talk to her teachers. We are very happy and proud to be part of the Kingswood family and my son can’t wait to start.
Kingswood College is truly a special school - you get more than an 'education' there, you get an extended family. One of the things I love about Kingswood is that it's a small school, meaning that everyone has the chance to shine, or find their place. Rugby players sing in the choir, academics lead the cheer leading. And the pride of being a Kingswoodian never leaves you.
It provides a high standard of education in accordance to the IEB schools standard. The campus is gorgeous and well maintained. This is a predominantly boarding school and the boarding houses are well maintained. The school strives to create relationships between pupils and I must say that I regard a lot of my fellow students as family. The school is Methodist and hosts at least two chapel services a week for the students. Even though it may be Methodist the school is still culturally diverse with many different religions being catered for. The school has a rich history that it aims to uphold. The teachers are friendly and engaging.
Full offering focused co-ed private school. Offering multiple activities such as high performance centre, music and theater, compulsory sports, chess, mentorship and dedicated learning environment.
Having been a student here for 6 years, I can confidently say it is a wonderful institution and it deserves the highest of praise for what it does for children. It offers high standard boarding conditions, sports facilities and learning environments, as well as a fruitful social environment for the learners.
Kingswood College is a great college for education. It offers a very high standard of education based on the IEB system. It is a methodist school. The campus is spectacular and beautiful. The community is very nice and makes sure everyone's feels welcome and at home.
Kingswood College is a wonderful school with a good, solid academic foundation, as well as cultural and sport. Loads of memorable traditions and an amazing legacy.
I've never been so miserable in my life. This school steals your money, they advertise nicely and make you think that it's paradise for your kids, rethink your decision.
