groundWork
groundWork, an NGO, was founded in 1999 in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The aim of the organisation is to help and grow the environmental justice movement in South Africa by providing technical support to communities affected by environmental injustices.
In 2003, groundWork and the US-based organisation, the South African Exchange Programmes on Environmental Justice (SAEPEJ) formed an association and groundWork US was established. groundWork US aims to connect to the South African Environmental Justice movement with its US counterpart, as well as support groundWork and its community leaders in opposing environmental injustices in South Africa.
groundWork's four campaigns are:
* Air Quality
* Waste
* Climate and Justice Energy
* Environmental Health
* Awareness projects through the media and public interaction
groundWork seeks to improve the quality of life of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in South Africa through assisting civil society to have a greater impact on environmental governance.
