Gwahumbe Game Lodge & Spa

Gwahumbe Game Reserve was an amazing experience. The place has lots to offer. It's best enjoyed with a 4x4 vehicle for the self game drive. Along the route we had spotted Zebra, Buck, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Ostrich Deer and even rare species of birdlife. There are a few river crossings as well as some steep inclines where the trail gets a little technical. Like us, if you too work up an appetite during your adventure there are many picnic and braai facilities available along the way. You could also plan a stay and book the accommodation available or take the time to get a much needed spa treatment, then order your food and beverages. There's a ton of stuff to do, we haven't had the time to check out the mountain bike trails, whether its something new or old theres always a good reason to visit again...

I took my husband to Gwahumbe for his birthday in February, it was amazing The view from our room was picturesque and so serene. We had dinner on our private balcony, and the food was delicious, the desserts were to die for The spa treatments were great as well, but I found it a bit short. We will most definitely return with a larger crowd next time as we didn't get to go on a game drive!! Overall it was a great weekend!

Beautiful Game Drive and 4x4 experience , delicious food served in a lovely setting, lovely massages. Friendly and welcoming staff. The reception area is under construction however that did not detract from an overall excellent experience.

A wonderful spot to recharge and relax. Outstanding accommodation, true luxury in the bush with every attention to detail from the infinty pool to the hot tub with spectacular views. The spa treatment was amazing, providing ultimate relaxation. Game drive with the fantastic Alison Ali was informative from the first bump! Exploring the numerous 4x4 trails on the property was exhilarating, and the team made sure our every request was pandered too. Missed the hippo on this trip but we will definitely be back to track him on the next adventure and all a stones throw away from home. Couldn't have asked for a better break, thank you Gwahumbe!

My dad treated us to a few nights as a welcome back when we were on holiday back in SA from the Netherlands. What a great gift! The location is stunning, with gorgeous picturesque mountains and roaming wild animals. We went on nature walks, chilled in our jacuzzi overlooking the mountains and had a cosy fire indoors. The place we stayed at, Riverbend, was so beautiful and luxurious. Noteworthy details: Superb sound system and such a cool fire warmed jacuzzi.

The service was absolutely amazing the location was great too! The food is absolutely devine. Only thing needed is a microwaves in the rooms. The game drive was super nice too.Rooms: 4/5

We had an amazing experience with Gwahumbe. The unit was clean, modern, sleek and had everything we needed with a very unique and hospitable touch to it. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was incredible and catered for different palates including vegetarians. The spa itself was brilliant with experienced masseuses. We will definitely be going back and would suggest this experience to anyone and everyone. Thank you.

The reserve is situated in a fantastic location. When traveling from Durban to Gwahumbe , use the route from Camperdown, safer route. The condition of the roads via Amanzimtoti is not advised. It's about 80mins to travel. There is gravel roads from the main road to the reserve. Sign boards along the route. Friendly staff at reception will mark the route that is advised according to the vehicle you have. Cars are not advised for the game drive. The spa is opened but the Hotel is still closed and is undergoing renovations. 9/04/2023. The hotel should be opened in the next 6 weeks. Vehicles with a higher clearance 4×4 is the most suitable for the game drive. You can go on a game drive with the reserve vehicle. I did the game drive with a 4×2 difflock but was not able to access some routes. There are different animals along the way, Follow the marked map as not to get stuck. There are river crossings which are not too deep. The camp sites are newly renovated, toilets, change rooms, kitchen area, braai area, table and chairs. Wood is supplied at the braai areas. Fire lighters and charcoal is sold at the reception. There are no shops close by to the reserve, make sure you carry all the required necessities for your journey. Toilets are clean and has water available. Safety: There entire reserve is fenced.
