About

We aim to give you updated general information and we cannot answer individual enquiries. For individual enquiries email us on [email protected]

Mission

The HPCSA is a statutory body, which is guided by a formal regulatory framework and this includes our founding Act, the Health Professions Act 56 of 1974. This Act governs all our activities, clearly defines the scope of each profession which it mandates to register with HPCSA, and sets clear processes to be followed by HPCSA in achieving our statutory mandate.

We regulate health professionals in South Africa and we are set up to protect the public. We only register professionals who meet our standards for their training, professional skills and behaviour. We thus have the power to institute disciplinary proceedings regarding any complaint, charge or allegation of unprofessional conduct against any person registered with Council. If a registered practitioner transgresses the rules as laid down by the Board, the practitioner will be subjected to a disciplinary process in terms of the regulations. We can also prosecute those who pretend to be registered.

The quality of service is ridiculously why. Tried for three whole days, with no response. "call volumes high". I wonder why? My emails have not been answered. how do I resolve an issue, when there is no response?
Minus rating is needed here. Their service needs great improvement. When a site gets a rating of 1.8 from about 350 reviewers, it needs SERIOUS attention. When you call HPCSA, no response after more than 30 min. You email them, no reply after 10 days. When you finally decide to go on site, the service is alike and bad. No indication to what to do or where to go, the Q is organised by the people themselves a ticket box/machine calling numbers will be better than the current service. It is only written "Registration" and "Finance" when there are tones of other things to do at HPCSA. Eish, it is unfortunate that we imperatively need their service. Please HPCSA, improve.
No service. Oh, correction: excellent 'service' when you set a foot wrong. Their only purpose is to collect annual fees and stuff their pockets. Why do we professionals keep on paying for nothing? It seems we are clever but not wise. This body should be named and shamed and NOT PAID. High time someone takes the lead to start a petition against them.
Lowest service at it's best, home affairs is even doing much better with entire population of the country, nothing is working here. Someone must monitor and control a these. This working from home must come to the end,it makes HPCSA to be bad ever now.
I wish I could give more but I have to be honest. I have struggled to get help even when visiting the branch. But I'm grateful for two staff members who've been kind enough to help me immediately. The service needs improvement.
It’s all negatives to be honest - incompetence, unaccountability, clueless, unbothered, lazy etc. You spend more that 20 minutes on hold for an agent who knows NOTHING. It’s pathetic. Can you start employing staff who know what’s happening and can give us valid answers to our valid questions.
I am appalled by the service level of this institution - they are the only health board in South Africa for all our needs and their customer service is useless? I have been trying for 9 months to get through to the HPCSA regarding STILL not being registered as an intern psychologist with them despite having completed my internship last year december, and my student registration expiring in march. They respond probably once every few months yet without resolving the issue? How am I supposed to get licensed when I can't even get decent service? If I could give a zero I would. The fact that they don't even concern themselves with their rating on their service is astounding.
Astonishing how a Governing body for all health care practitioners of a country can be this pathetic. Slowed response, poor communication, inadequate staff, faulty admin protocols. Yet another reason why SA health care system is suffering !!
The HPCSA is without a doubt a truly shameless, incompetent, lazy and money-grubbing organization that wouldn't survive a single day more if it wasn't for the fact medical professionals are obligated to pay them to be able to practice legally in the country. I submitted the necessary proof of payment and paperwork to request a certificate of status in December of 2022 and as of February 2023 I haven't heard anything from them other than "We're sorry, we'll assign [this guy] to help you out" and then it's just stonewalling from there on again. Without the certificate I won't be able to submit university applications during this year and the HPCSA will be directly responsible for delaying or ending my postgraduate education prospects. Either every head at the council must roll or the council should be disbanded and have its regulatory responsibilities devolved to individual professions. They don't deserve our money, since they're clearly just wasting it.
Been on the phone trying to get ahold of them for an hour. Been hung up on twice. They don’t answer phone calls nor reply to emails. However, after trying for countless times a very helpful lady by the name of fifi answered and tended to my problem asap. She was very nice and helpful. She has restored my faith in this organisation.
