The centre mainly focuses on providing 3 categories of services, being "Chinese courses" (online and physical), "Cultural events" and "Merchandise". Our goal is to introduce the beautiful language and culture of China to South African people.

Had an incredibly fun and informative afternoon learning Chinese calligraphy with Huang Lao Shi. The lesson was very well-organized and turned out to be quite therapeutic! We were provided with beautiful brush sets and tools to practice with, as well as some notes to help us follow along. He also took us through some of the history and culture behind Chinese calligraphy which really helped give a greater understanding behind what we were doing. And you don't have to be afraid if you are a complete beginner! Him and his wife are very understanding and their patient nature will help you learn in no time. Definitely a fun class to give a try!
Teacher Huang is very patient and has a good sense of humour. I signed up for private lessons over Zoom, and it's been one of the best things I've done this year. His focus on grammar and sentence structure as well as pronunciation and tones, has really helped me improve my Mandarin. I highly recommend his lessons to anyone that wants to learn or advance their Mandarin.
Absolutely love learning Mandarin with Mr Tony. I’ve been with him for more than a year now and I can say that he’s humorous, patient and makes the overall lessons enjoyable and engaging. There was never a dull moment with him. Would highly recommend this center if you are considering to learn Mandarin. Cannot wait to master this language with this superb teacher. :
Having been studying Chinese with Huang Laoshi for almost a year now, I can confidently say that he is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Our weekly lessons are always very entertaining, yet extremely productive and insightful - you can tell Tony is a skilled educator. I also thoroughly enjoy the cooking classes and cultural events that Tony and his wife, Nikita, host. These events are always lots of fun and are something to look forward to. Tony and Nikta go above and beyond - from Tony answering any questions I have at any time of the night or day, or to dropping off Zongzi that Nikita has cooked. I look forward to many more years of learning with them!
Huang Laoshi is an exceptional school. Teacher Huang follows a systematic syllabus breaking the language down so anyone with patience and some persistence can learn it. I had been searching for a long time for a Chinese teacher, and I found the right one.
Learning Mandarin has been something I have wanted to do for a very long time. I truly believe that the teacher makes or breaks the subject. I am so grateful to have started my journey with the Huang Laoshi Mandarin Centre. Tony is extremely patient and has a wonderful, easy to understand teaching method. Professional yet humorous, easy-going yet structured and efficient. I feel like I really am learning and retaining the new information. If you have ever wanted to try Mandarin,this is the place for you. Loving every minute of it!
Myself 42 and my 2 daughters 11 & 25 are studying with Huáng lǎoshī. The classes are well structured, at a pace we all can follow at once and fun! In the short time we have learned a great deal and have found a passion for the language and culture. A whole new world has opened up for us as a family! Tony is very accommodating to our schedules and takes extra care in boosting our confidence while we learn Mandrin Hànyǔ There has been no room to feel left behind or lost. Highly recommended for all ages. Just start, you might enjoy it. Huàng lǎoshī, xièxie nǐ for the craft you are teaching this family, we love attending your classes but above all we are learning and having fun as we learn. Hopefully we can make you proud and converse in Mandarin with ease one day.
Huang Laoshi Mandarin Centre hosts amazing cultural events. Tony and Nikita are very friendly and welcoming to all. The cultural events are incredibly interesting and entertaining. They are informative and they give you the opportunity to learn about a different culture. They also offer you snacks and tea when attending. I would definitely recommend attending their events.
After many years of start-stoping Mandarin with many different teachers in different countries I can honestly say Huang Laoshi has been a god-send. Patient, funny and with tonnes of experience he has gotten me further in the last few months than I had over the past few years. He's willing to work around your schedule, no matter where you are in the world as well. I've already recommended him to a friend and my partner is planning on starting classes with him too. You won't go wrong with him if you want to really learn Mandarin!
A very well organized, structured, friendly and fun course and learning experience that I received from Huang Laoshi Mandarin Centre! Teacher Tony is friendly and patient as well as extremely rigorous and earnest in his teaching ability! I have learnt much in what is already a massive and challenging language and I could see myself improving with every lesson. I highly recommend this centre for your mandarin learning and experience! P.S. I don't know any other teacher that would go the extra mile to deliver cultural delicacies like Zongzi in celebration of their cultural events to their students! Thank you very much!
