Very strong recommend. I forgot about how much I like this place. Everything except the beef is produced at the owner's farm. Love that! Their menu is creative, food is hearty, organic and delicious, atmosphere is inviting - especially the deck on the sunny day. I came to celebrate my birthday and the manager gave me a cosmo on the house - #goals! Super attentive waiters. Worth the trip if you're not in the area. The caprese salad was refreshing and generous. The duck breast was a bit dry and looked like steak but then I remembered it was cured so that made sense. Tasty and the veggies were the star of the show but I wouldn't order it again. My drink was blah but that's because I took a virgin cocktail and added rum to it - however a bartender should still be able to make it taste nice. Not enough of an issue to change the rating because the cosmo was perfection.
Great atmosphere and friendly waiters. The food was okay, not entirely amazing for the price we paid but the presentation was very good. Had the rolled pork belly as it was highly recommended but wasn't really blown away, tried to taste the pork crackling but it was hard and stale besides that the vegetables were very good and the pork was okay. It was also disappointing that were only given a wine list and no other drinks menu which was very weird when looking at how well decked out the bar was. All things considered it was a good experience hopefully I will return to try other dishes and have a different opinion
Il Contadino is still maintaining its standards. One of the better restaurants in Johannesburg. Good menu. I had a delicious seafood risotto. Service was good. Good wine list. Parking could be a challenge. So glad it survived COVID.
Loved it. The pea and artichoke salad was divine. Light, fresh and morish. The Pasta a la Noma if I remember the name correctly was a stunning eggplant and tomato dish that is literally the best eggplant pasta dish I've ever had. And I almost always go the eggplant route.Food: 5/5
Absolutely delicious food and an amazing atmosphere!Food: 5/5
For the price point and market positioning I was disappointed. Long stem broccoli substituted for normal broccoli, poor training given to waiters by management and lack of dietary restriction awareness. The duck breast was basted in sauce and then charred too much, burning the sauce and giving the dish a burnt taste. If the duck breast was first grilled and the sauce applied towards the end, it would have been perfect. The pasta was wonderfully put together, well balanced and fresh. I don't think the walnuts were worth adding as the few I did taste had bits of shell in them but a fantastic dish. Overall the food is good but not great. If a restaurant charges R240+ for a main and markets itself as 'quality first', my expectations are raised. To management, you have quality ingredients and a great menu. Please invest more time in training your employees waiters and chief. Notify patrons that ingredients are seasonal and specify ahead of time of any substitutions.
The food is really excellent. Waiters are the friendliest and knowledgeable i have ever come across. You just feel so welcome, like you are familia. If only if it had a view overlooking the ocean or rolling hills in the countryside.. but alas, at least us people in Jozi are fortinate to have this jem of a eatery right in our midst... Definitely one to visit
Super cosy and warm and relaxing. The food is okay but I'm sure it was just a preference thing. I didn't really enjoy anything besides the cocktails.Food: 2/5
What an experience!! The ambience was perfectly created, tempered and toned to suit the evening as it settled upon us. The waiters were fabulous and catered to my retarded requests for potatoes in pasta! No one bat an eyelid at any of my modifications and in fact made it with so much love I could taste the perfection! The food was exquisite, blending flavors so effortlessly with a slightly potent garlic after taste that said "I like food more than I like people"...and I was entirely okay with that! The desserts needed a tiny bit of work, but in all honesty, between the services and the main course, it really didn't matter. Definitely a must try for an intimate and romantic setting.
Had a 5-star experience at il contadino today. Had always driven past the restaurant and thought it looked sweet and today we finally decided to give it a chance. Excellent service, knowledgeable and friendly waiters, delicious wines, and, most importantly, incredible food. Highlight meals being the Fig and Wild Boar Crostini and the Almond Soaked Sponge. Stunning flavour balance in the dishes and that almond sponge may have been the best dessert I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Absolutely incredible experience and can’t wait to return. 10/10 would recommend!
