Inclusive Education SA promotes and supports positive models of inclusive education in schools, preschools and other centres of learning in South Africa.
Inclusive Education South Africa is a registered non-profit organisation. It has promoted and supported inclusive education practices in the Western Cape since 1995.
We believe that an inclusive education system is one that acknowledges the diversity of its learner population - differences in learning styles, needs and objectives - and which is sufficiently flexible, supportive and co-operative to accommodate the diversity. It is a system that truly recognises and responds to the fact that we all have strengths and weaknesses, and might experience barriers to effective learning at times.
Our primary aim is to promote and support the development of more inclusive practices in ordinary pre-schools and schools and to foster increased support of children with learning difficulties, disabilities or other special needs. Find out about our current projects.
Our mission is to ensure that families, educators and service-providers of children with disabilities have access to information, and are introduced to support networks and services that can facilitate inclusion into ordinary neighbourhood schools. This involves:
- Challenging and changing attitudes towards inclusion in education.
- Understanding inclusive education policy and its implications for the classroom setting.
- Helping educators to deal with their fears, and sensitizing them to inclusion practices.
- Informing educators and parents of support structures and resources.
