We came here for the afternoon tea. Just to note the restaurant on Google comes up as closed but it is open for tea. The ambience and service was so good, amazing even. Decor was wow and the little touches of the experiences were great. The savoury food was great, so was the sweet- everything was amazing! And it was just enough food. Tea was also good. Afternoon tea is £52 per person and I would definitely recommend going, especially on a special occasion!
We came here for high tea on a weekday. The pluses: Fantastic service. Fun, quirky concept experience and decor. Creative and visually appealing food. The minus: The food tasted just OK. Some items were better than others the macaron for instance but overall it was fairly average and certainly not what we expected at this price range.
I’ll start by saying - I do not understand, how they’ve got a star. It wasn’t bad. But it was like having Chinese food on the street in New York at 3am after a party. The plating were as if where were back in 2002 and had to make something Funky with the sauce. Putting that aside, the food was just not good. Not balanced. Not perfectly cooked. Boring. The duck was SO dry wow, can’t even describe into words. The pork Bao was so boring. The wasabi prawns were ok. The lobster dish was meh. The lamb cutlets were boring and not made medium how I wanted. Honestly, will never go back. Oh, and £700 for a couple for basically bad food… so, I’ll take my £700 next time and go to A.Wong! Best part about it, was that I brought my own desserts from Cedric which were bomb.
The food is great especially the chili lobster. It was one of the best dishes I’ve ever tried. The duck was also very nice but I wouldn’t say it’s that special. Also shrimp wasabi for starters, yummm! It’s honestly quite pricey but it was expected.Recommended dishesLobster Noodles, Wasabi Prawns, Chili Lobster, Wasabi Shrimp
I am almost loathe to tell people about this gem of a spot. However, this delightful, whimsical and eclectically elegant spot had me at the entrance. Pistachio Créme Bruleé, Crispy Duck on a Bao and Rosebud Tea mean that this isn't the standard Scone, Cakes and Tea Sandwiches afternoon tea. You owe it to yourself to search Kai out and indulge yourself.
Great restaurant with amazing food! The service is great and couldn’t find one thing to improve. I will come again for sure!
Visited for dinner and all dishes were prepared top class. They put desserts at the beginning of the menu for a good reason - you can’t miss them, must have to order!
We were very excited to try out Kai in Mayfair. This 1 Michelin star spot has had some really good reviews. The atmosphere and interior is really nicely designed and quite unique. The food was decent and the wine selection was good. Highlight of the evening was the chocolate dessert. One of the best things to try.
Chinese Whispers afternoon tea @ Kai was awesome. Really fun and cute. Service and welcome was awesome. Lovely downstairs room which is well suited to a relaxing afternoon. All the food was very tasty and pretty as a picture. Will definitely have to try dinner next time.
For a one star Michelin restaurant, the establishment seems to have a challenge finding adequate wait staff. The duck was one the best we ever had, yet, the pancakes and sauces arrived 5 minutes before the duck itself. The temperature of these two did not match! The wait staff multiple confused people coming to our table when we sat down did not even offer to roll it. The cashew chicken and peppered beef were good but not extra special as you would expect from the ratings. The portions were not generous, either. You need to order rice or noodles at rather exegerated charge. What got us really upset is that we ordered Lobster Lobster that came with identical noodles as the one we ordered on the side and the waitress did not even advice us that it will be the very identical noodle for only 24 pounds! and that perhaps we should reconsider to select something else. The stir fried rice was just a simple white rice with a hint of ginger and sesame oil for a surprising 16 pounds. We would have been better off eating in one of the top rated restaurants in China Town next door. We got charged automatically the service but truly received very little of it. It was raining outside, and no one offered to call a cab nor even said “goodbye”. One more thing - we were seated in the dark basement with somewhat dated interiors. There was a guest who slipped going down of the steep and poorly highlighted stairs. Not a good feeling in a middle of a day. Very disappointing experience.
