Helping to keep the orphans of South Africa warm.
There are an estimated 1.4 million orphans in South Africa, many of them as a result of losing their parents to HIV AIDS. The number is growing - over 500 children a day become orphans. This is a terrible and mostly unrecognised human tragedy.
If you would like to be supportive, but neither knit or crochet, please consider sending a donation to our PayPal Account, here is the link via our website : http://www.knit-a-square.com/knit-a-square-donate.html

Knit-a-square.com has been set up to ask the knitters and crocheters of the world to send an 8 x 8" (20 x 20cm) squares and other items to South Africa, where they will be made up into blankets for these children.
The orphans live in terrible poverty. They need love, shelter, food, education and warmth. Many charities are working hard to provide the first four. The knitters of the world can provide the last.
Our vision is to help eliminate the poverty and ignorance that lead to children being orphaned or abandoned through conditions such as AIDS. We recognise that this is a massive task, currently beyond the capability of any single government or world body.
That does not mean that people of goodwill and determination should not tackle the challenge. Through our incorporated not-for-profit association, KasCare we have embarked on that long term journey.
Our mandate is to reach children of all races, who have lost parents through HIV/AIDs. Our team in South Africa and the worldwide contributors come from all cultures, races and religions. We would like to do more, but we are a tiny charity that is run entirely by volunteers at this time.
