Masifunde activates children and youth to initiate positive change within their community.
Masifunde educates learners in primary and high school to become changemakers (multipliers, active role models), who are enabled to take over responsibility in their community and who systematically share their learnings and know-how with their peers. The participants of Masifunde’s changemaker training do not only trigger processes of rethinking and change within their social environment, but also receive intensive academic and extra-curricular support as well as life skills and personality training. This allows them to make full use of their potential, achieve academically and in life, to ultimately break the cycle of poverty and to encourage others to follow their example.
Masifunde’s development approach focusses on high quality education in a holistic manner. Participants join our programmes at an early age (Grade 3) and ideally stay with us until they finish school.
Throughout, they are trained in three fields of education:
• academic assistance (homework support, tutoring),
• extra-curricular education (in the fields of arts, media and sports) and
• informal education (life skills, personality growth).
All learners have access to the services of trained social workers if needed.
Our vision is a united society in which everyone is empowered through high quality education to participate pro-actively and confidently in societal issues and thereby initiating positive change in their own lives and the lives of others.
To bring our vision into reality we provide educational support in a holistic and sustainable manner to motivated learners from previously disadvantaged communities.
Our interventions include academic support, life skills training, extra-curricular activities in the fields of arts, media and sport, and social assistance.
