Vezokuhle Youth Development Project (VYDP) was conceived in October 1999, after a workshop by the Project for Conflict Resolution and Development (PCRD) at Ithembelihle High School, in Port Elizabeth. The objective of the workshop was to empower participants with life skills such as decision-making skills, goal-setting skills & HIV AIDS awareness etc. Since then the members of VYDP have continued to enhance and refine their skills with ongoing and intensive training from several service providers, Port Elizabeth Technikon (now NMMU) is one of those institutions. After thorough training and research, VYDP has designed programmes as a development strategy to be used in the delivery of viable, sustainable training for the youth of the Nelson Mandela Metro (NMMM) and the broader community of the Eastern Cape Province.
Today this dynamic youth driven organization through its programmes is reaching numerous youth viz youth in school, youth in prisons, out of school youth (unemployed), and those infected and affected by HIV AIDS.
VYDP Corporate Governance constitutes of:
Six full time staff members that are contracted for a period of one year.
Six field workers for the organization who are paid a stipend.
Board of Directors who act as a strategic team and decision makers of the organization, these board members meet regularly to discuss and strategize the future and the sustainability of the organization.
Fisher Hoffman PKF, an Accounting and Auditing Company manage VYDP’s finances.
Vezokuhle Youth Development Project (VYDP) is an organization of excellence that works in the Eastern Cape Province which aims to develop and empower youth in all sectors through the delivery of viable, leadership skills, conflict management, poverty alleviation interventions and relevant up-to-date life skills training, essential to personal & community development in order to build a healthy, holistic, self-sustaining, poverty-free environment.
LIST OF PROGRAMMES
Community Work Programme (CWP) - COGTA: We have been a local implementing agent in this programme for a year, whereby we manage, facilitate stakeholder engagement, recruit and implement community infrastructural projects that train and place participants from the Camdeboo and Ikwezi Municipalities, respectively.
Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) - Non State Sector
Programme: The aim of this programme has been to help alleviate unemployment. In 2 years over 300 participants located in the Eastern Cape region have been and are currently benefitting from this programme.
HIV/AIDS and TB Awareness Programme: The delivery of this programme is run in communities where these topics are a social concern and stigmatized. Community dialogues have been conducted by facilitators who have been trained as trainers on Community Capacity Enhancement Methodology by GIZ/NMF Partnership (CCE). We have 4 years experience in this regard , where over 2000 beneficiaries have participated in this programme.
Rehabilitation Programme: Our expertise in youth development have been used to conduct a Life Skills Rehabilitation Programme in 9 correctional centres in the Eastern Cape for the past 7 years; the assistance of qualified facilitators, assessors and moderators are used to deliver quality programmes.
Social Re-integration Programme: This programme assists former offenders re-unite with their families, train them in technical skills and organize a workplace for them in the working environment. 8 years experience of implementation.
Job Creation and Entrepreneurial Programme - New Venture Creation (SAQA) ID66249: This programme assists youth by training them in technical skills that will enable them to enhance their entrepreneurship ability and to help them start their businesses. Thus, receiving the New Venture Creation qualification upon completion of the programme. 6 years experience in the running of this programme.
School Based Educational Programme: We have worked in schools in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan, conducting educational programmes where learners are assisted in mathematics, science, ICT extra lessons, life skills, HIV/AIDS.
TB awareness. This programme has been running for three years.
Capacity Building for Diverging Programme -
Department of Social Development: We have conducted various workshops to capacitate young people from the Department of Social Development 500 beneficiaries over the period of 3 years.
