“Moditlo” means place of the elephant and the spirit of this unique and gentle animal echoes the extraordinary experience that awaits you when entering the 36000 acre Private Blue Canyon Conservancy, just 16 kilometres outside of Hoedspruit adjacent to the world renowned Greater Kruger National Park.

The brand new ultra luxurious 18 bedroom lodge, is built in a very modern contemporary style, yet it resembles traditional bush living and offers guests a private retreat, hidden away in the African bush where man and Big 5 meet….

Moditlo River Lodge runs a children’s program with dedicated child-minders for complete peace of mind while you relax on the pool deck or enjoy a mud bath before being pampered by our trained masseurs.

The Njala, our state of the art fine dining restaurant overlooks the Nbesi River, and it is here where guests can enjoy the best cuisine and wine that Africa has on offer. Our hosts will also introduce guests to traditional bush barbeques (braai’s) while local tribes dance and sing the night away….

The Game drives on our brand new Luxury Toyota Land Cruisers, conducted by our passionate and experienced nature guides, will not only introduce guests to the African wildlife but will send you home with an in depth knowledge of the trees, birds and animals, that roam this very unique part of the world.

A Wonderful Stay at Moditlo River Lodge  I recently had the pleasure of staying at Moditlo River Lodge and I must say it was a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel right at home. Their friendliness and helpfulness throughout our stay were truly remarkable.  The food at Moditlo River Lodge exceeded our expectations. Every meal was a culinary delight, with a diverse range of delicious dishes that satisfied both our taste buds and our appetite. The chefs truly showcased their talent, and we eagerly anticipated each meal.  The game drives offered by the lodge were a highlight of our stay. The knowledgeable guides took us on unforgettable wildlife adventures, where we had the opportunity to see magnificent animals up close in their natural habitat. The guides' expertise and passion for the wildlife added an educational and immersive element to the experience.  In addition to the exceptional service and thrilling game drives, the lodge itself was a sight to behold. Nestled in a beautiful location, surrounded by nature, Moditlo River Lodge blended luxury and comfort seamlessly. The attention to detail in the design and decor created an ambiance of tranquility and relaxation.  Overall, I highly recommend Moditlo River Lodge to anyone seeking a memorable and rejuvenating getaway. The friendly staff, amazing food, thrilling game drives, and stunning lodge make it a top-notch destination. Our stay surpassed all expectations, and we cannot wait to return in the future.

My partner and I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful lodge. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed with smiles,  drinks and refreshing towels. We were promptly assisted with luggage and thoroughly provided with all the amenities and the rules. Moditlo River Lodge exceeded all my expectations and provided an unforgettable safari experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by warm and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. The lodge itself is nestled in a picturesque location Hoespruit, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness.  The accommodations were luxurious and comfortable, with well-appointed rooms that blended seamlessly with the natural environment. The attention to detail in the design and furnishings created a serene and relaxing atmosphere. I particularly loved the private deck where I could unwind and enjoy the stunning African sunset.  The safari activities at Moditlo were exceptional!!!  The knowledgeable and passionate guides took us on thrilling game drives, where we had close encounters with Africa's magnificent wildlife. We spotted elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, wildebeest, cheetahs, squirrels, loads on antelope  and an abundance of bird species. The guides' expertise and their ability to share interesting facts about the animals and the ecosystem added tremendous value to the experience.  The dining at Moditlo River Lodge was a culinary delight. The meals showcased a variety of delicious local and international dishes, prepared with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The attentive staff catered to dietary preferences and ensured that every meal was a delightful gastronomic journey.  The lodge's commitment to conservation and sustainability was evident throughout my stay. I appreciated their efforts to minimize the lodge's ecological footprint and support the local community.

Moditlo Lodge was easily the highlight of our South African trip. Really enjoyed the 2 game drives per day, it’s an unbelievable experience to see animals in their natural habitat. Food was great and accommodation- seemed much higher than a 3 star resort, and the staff are very attentive and friendly. We would definitely like to come back here again!

Staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is amazing. I enjoyed every single meal they served. The game drives were fun, we made good friends and saw a lot of animals. I would definitely visit again in future.  Edit: If it happens to rain, they provide ponchos for game drives. The ponchos are extremely dirty, I have never seen anything dirtier. Bring your own raincoat if you can.

I couldn't have asked for a more incredible experience on safari in South Africa. Moditlo Lodge provided 5 star service to everyone in my party. The food was INCREDIBLE - every course was better than the last. They went above and beyond to provide amazing, personalized guest service and I learned so much about the animals and wildlife from the knowledgable guides. I can't recommend this lodge enough.

If peace and quiet is what you are after this is the place for you. The perfect place to reset and recentre. The whole staff was super friendly. The meals delicious .  The rooms were impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. They offer 2 game drives per day and we ticked off 4 of the big five in 2 days. It was my birthday week and on my birthday they baked me a beautiful birthday cake and made me feel extra special. It's one place I will never forget and if ever I need a reset it will be number one on the list.

The rooms and the service were top, we saw almost all animals we wanted to see, we were close to the animals and went off road a couple times. That said, this reserve has a lot of fences, a lot of the time you'll be looking at a fence and we found a group of giraffes and a group of cheetahs that were separated by the fence.  Safety: They pay a lot of attention to safety, there&#39;s a walker all night that can take you safely to other places of the hotel, we saw a lot of wildlife in the hotel, it was amazing

Moditlo is the perfect weekend escape! The rooms were clean. The food was tasty and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our pascaterian meals. We enjoyed the game drives, the tour guide was phenomenal, has a great sense of humor and super knowledgeable. The spa was great too. We throughly enjoyed our stay! Highly recommend this place.  Rooms: Very clean and beautifully set. The rooms do not have a TV but this is perfect because there&#39;s plenty to enjoy on site and no time for TV.  Nearby activities: We did not leave the lodge while visiting, everything we needed was on site. It was perfect! Enjoyed the spa, pool, game drives and the food.

It's an excellent choice! A nice lodge in the bush full of comforts and with a great service! You might see animals in the garden, harmless and peaceful, the feeling of being surrounded by them is absolutely unforgettable.. The staff makes the difference: the kindness of the waitresses, the receptionists, the manager made us feeling cuddled! To have one of the staff accompanying us to our room made us feeling totally save even at night! The game drive guide and the tracker are totally skillful and experienced! We had the immediate felling that they are the best in that area in understanding the animal's way of thinking and their movements! They were those who spotted the animals, and then communicate the other lodges guides where the animals are.. We saw plenty of lions, a leopard, cheetah, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, zebras etc etc etc.. I really felt safe!

Great lodge with only 10 rooms, everything was very familiar and made our stay unfortgetable. The rooms or little lodges we're clean and food was delicious. Very nice staff, especially our driver Jika is a great guy, we had so much fun. We saw the big 5 within 2 days. P.s. Don't follow Google maps, you have to get to the main entrance gate to Moditlo Reserve.  Only one little negative point is that a very loud train is passing the lodge outside of the reserve.
