Probably deserves a 3.5 stars. Spent two nights on a work trip. Positives: the bed was comfy, there was a power point next to the bed for cell charging, the aircon in the room worked a charm, and shower water was hot. The dinners were good, wholesome food, but nothing too fancy. Cons: the finishings in the rooms are dated and starting to feel a bit ropey. TV is tiny and there is no dstv. There is no bar facilty, so you're not able to get a drink.. Bring your own beer or wine if you must. Breakfast can be improved.. Provide filter coffee because the cappuccino machine wasn't working properly. Descale your urn... the cup of hot water I got was full of sediment. Add tabasco to your sauces. Put real butter on the tables, not marge. Thanks
I would not recommend booking at Monte Cristo Country Lodge to anyone. We made a booking via AirBnB and paid for the accommodation in advance in July 2022. We were contacted by Marnitz to inform us that unfortunately there is no space available for the dates booked, but that the money will he refunded. We continued contacting Marnitz to enquire when the refund will be made, but he always had an excuse, they had to follow it up with airbnb or he had to discuss it with management, but until this date almost 4 months later we have not received feedback from Monte Christo or our money paid back. We paid for a service that was never given to us and Monte Christo and the staff has no integrity or professionalism. Initially we would be happy even if they offered us a voucher for alternative dates, but I truly do not want to stay at Monte Christo. If this is how they treat potential customers, they certainly would not have good service when someone is staying there. Mariska Paton
Very disappointing. We booked as a large party and were assured that everything was under control. Upon arrival the rooms where not all booked according to the bookings as well as the rooms were not cleaned. Some guests were told there were no rooms for them. We where told that the manager would be on the premises for the weekend and he would be there to over see all the organisation. However decided to take the weekend off and leave all the formalities to someone who had not been informed correctly of the arrangements. We paid for a breakfast that was very unsatisfactory. The jam and margarine was Severed out of their original mass plastic containers. One of the guests were left to make the toast for the whole party. Not enough seats for the amount of people booked. We don’t ask for much but when something is promised and arranged and paid for it is expected to be there.

What a disappointing experience we had!!! Management is a total disaster.... rooms are filthy, blinds are broken, towels are at the end of their lives, fused light bulbs, electical plugs faulty, back up watertanks not filled up with water to provide sufficient supply during municipal waterline repairs. Worst breakfast we ever had.... Never again!!!!
I booked months in advance for my son's wedding. We booked the whole venue. Marnitz assured me everything would be in order. He wasn't there the weekend and it was not as it should have been. 2 of the guests were told that there is no place for them, in the end there were rooms for them. Some of the lights in the rooms did not work. Aircons were out of order, only needed new batteries. I booked a breakfast for 35 people. Table were set for 28. Cereal served without milk or bowls to eat from. I posted photo under eet en drinkgoed van plastiekhouers op die tafel. I was not happy at all. Will not recommend this guest house
Stayed for a weekend. Could not open the bathroom door properly. Its stuck to the floor. Staff not helpfull. Breakfast was poor for example. You get your margarine in the tubs, the mixed jam comes in its plastic container. Not enough or no plates to dish, had to search for salt and peper etc etc. Poor quality viennas. Our cups, glasses and teaspoon were taken out our room and not returned after the first night. And so i can go on and on. You will not see me again.
Was on a business trip and this was ideal great breakfast friendly staff. Rooms are really nice and comfortable weather you stay a night or a week ... And best of all it is exceptionally well pricedRooms: 5/5
We had the pleasure of staying there over the weekend and it was absolutely great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The place is ideal for a peaceful getaway.Rooms: 4/5
Staff very friendly, was not impressed with the breakfast, rooms are clean but small things like no soap holder in the shower.Rooms: 3/5
