The building and space could use a little face lift , a little paint could go a long way, toilets aren't the cleanest use the rest room before you go there. Otherwise it's a beautiful experience got to be up and close with the lions and elephants.
Signing off with a visit to the Lion Park. Roughly a 7km sand road drive to the Lion enclosure .. on route you are able to see elephants and lots of birds and butterflies. Recommended speed I'd say is nothing above 20km ph.. and the entry fee per vehicle of a 4person pax is R200.. the lions are graceful and not interactive. Overall good experience. Also nearby is the birds of prey enclosure for travellers to visit and the zoo that's next to the Lion Park.
I loved seeing lions outside the cage, they were so many and so big, For the first time in my life I touched the living elephant thanks to the Natal Lion Park However, they need to maintain their gravel road because some of us are driving small vehicles
You drive through the resurve in hopes to see some wildlife/ lions but get disappointed when you enter an enclosure with the lions inside. Although they are gorgeous to see up close it is so cruel to see them kept closed in a space so small.
When you get there, you are not told how far you need to drive to the Lion enclosure. You have to drive on a dirt road with no guidance, map or direction. There are elephants you meet who look so distressed. Please take fruit for them. The Lion enclosure is so small the animals have nowhere to run and not enough trees to lay under. This place needs attention asap. The animals are beautiful though. It made the experience worth it
Very disappointed, you basically drive to a single enclosure where there's about 16 lions all sitting and sleeping under a tree. You get close to them and they are used to visitors so that's cool, and at least you can take some close up pictures. Then you drive up through the Bush to see a guy with 1 Elephant. We didn't see the big African Elephant, it was the small Asian one. That's it! The drive was nothing exciting at all, it's on a very bumpy dirt road surrounded by Bush, and you can't see anything further than the Bush surrounding you, so very claustrophobic. There were no other animals at all, so that's R200 for just some sleeping lions and a small Elephant. We then went to the Zoo just next door and that was much better, though another R210 for 2 adults and a kid.
Not Kruger National but you can see they are trying to improve the facilities and make it a destination. We enjoyed seeing the elephants, the lions were a little aged.
We had fun at the zoo. Looks like they are trying to fix it up. Many of the enclosures/ exhibits need a lot of work. The splash pad/pool was nice but was not open when we went. All the animals look in good condition. The lion park separate attraction next door was a whole different story. If someone doesn’t intervene there, the place won’t be worth visiting next year. Would never stay at that lodge . The 7km road is almost impossible to get through in some places in a car. The lions need some attention from a vet. One had a huge sore on its face. We had a great time but that place has definitely seen better days.
They have elephants and lions in open space. Can take own car into safari
Great up close experience with elephants and lions however after all these years they could definitely improve the drive through to the dam which takes about 30 minutes and is basically an amateur offroading experience. Would not recommend visiting with a low vehicle.
