Netcare has been a family hospital for years, the staff is mostly lovely, the new ones not so much but majority of the older ones who've been there for a while, they're nice. The hospital is clean and well maintained, the parking is something though, but otherwise laid out well; and a happy vibe to make you feel better instead of worrying about why you're there in the first place. Catholic themed hospital with statues all around the outsides and stunning arched walk ways and roman cathedral themed windows. Beautiful balcony's with stunning views of Durban, really a hotel for a hospital. Always keeping up with the theme of the season they're always ready to try and cheer up their patients. The Doctors are sharp and on their game, they are attentive and work diligently to ensure their patients a safe and healthy return home.
Shocking shocking. Long story short arrived at 6pm got to a ward at 11. had to beg for a sandwich, no staff getting my history or details, no interest in helping. 3 days later had still not changed my band from trauma to surgical ward. There were a few good staff who were running around like headless chickens while the rest of the staff literally sat around. i personally saw this several times. no care or worry!! very very sad!
I’m very happy with my stay there, the food was great! I’m glad they had non spicy food options, the staff were phenomenal and very friendly, the room was VERY clean and well kept. My only complaint is the discharge process- I feel like there could have been a bit more communication for discharge like when I’ll leave so my lift doesn’t wait around all day hoping to get a message to come collect me and a bit more info on how to care for my wound once I leave the hospital. But overall I’m very happy
A mixed review is the only saving grace for this hospital during my moms stay. As her surgery went well and Dr Thunder was attentive in explaining the procedure beforehand. Once her surgery was completed she was cared for in high care by the amazing SR Nomcebo Maphumulo and SR A Nxumalo. Sadly everything went down hill from there as my mom was heavily neglected the first day and barely got her medication or tea. There care system with the nurses needs a lot of work as no one seemed to know what was going on and my mom didn’t even have a panic button. She gained an infection in her drain the day she was supposed to leave.
They hardly ever answer their switchboard and I was witness to them completely ignoring the ringing phone in the General Ward I was in no they were not busy, simply didn’t feel like answering Some of the “nurses” make you feel like they are doing you SUCH A FAVOUR by being asked for assistance. A snail could beat the pace at which the saunter around. Some of the worst behavior I also witnessed was from the nursing staff in ICU. For what this hospital charges I am APPALLED by their service.
Extremely happy with service at St Augustines Hospital. My 10 year old daughter was admitted to hospital and the service has been exceptionally good. Admissions went quick and without any hassles. We were taken to the ward and made sure we were settled. Shortly after everyone involved with her care which is about 4 different departments came around at different times and got all the necessary tests done making sure my daughter is very comfortable. Staff is very kind and caring checking up on both of us and making sure that we are comfortable and looked after. Food is good and kitchen very accommodating especially with my daughter being such a fussy eater. Thank you Ronel Lowe and all the other staff at St Augustines Hospital for making our Hospital stay a comfortable and pleasant experience.
It has taken the entire day to check in and sort out the enormous backlog of procedures just to get admitted into the ward. I'm in for surgery tomorrow but not one member of staff here has any clue that this is the case, and I have asked. I wasn't given any lunch despite beginning the admittance procedure before 9 this morning. No choice was given either about dinnervegetarians bewareand what was provided was a third cup of very watery rice with three cubes of beef and half a baby carrot. No water or juice or any liquid of any kind has been offered. The entire day. I can only imagine that our prison system offers a better class of accommodation. My meds were lost for over an hour but were subsequently found left and abandoned in another ward on a table. Capsules or pills are offered without any liquid to injest them. Dry swallowing is the only way. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Please use a different hospital at all costs. This service is worse than one can expect from out state institutions. And that is free!
I was in Surgical 4 on the 10th Feb 2023.The nurses and staff exceeded my expectations. Their service provided and willingness to help was truly amazing, I honestly was expecting the worst after the negative reviews the hospital was getting from others but after staying there I'm not sure what the fuss was about. The staff at the ward was ever so willing to assist towards all my needs and constantly checked on my wellbeing,in fact they showed a level of passion for their jobs, they showed me that they care. The staff meticulously explained my procedure process. I was hungry at an odd hour of the night when the kitchen was closed but the nurse still made a plan and arranged additional food for me. During my stay at the ward I felt like I was with family. I'm truly grateful to every staff member in surgical 4 on both shifts the staff was brilliant. Even after being discharged the hospital management phoned me to wish me a speedy recovery, Well done. My stay was actually a memorable one. Well done Netcare St Augustines! Keep it up!
After spending two hours waiting to see a physician, I started wondering if the cost was worth it. I may as well gone to a public holiday for the same service levels.
I haven’t been to St Augs since I was born there in 97, and so I was a little apprehensive, naturally. But shoutout to the lovely nurses in Surgical Ward 5 and the theatre nurses who made me feel so comfortable, dignified and cared for before and after my procedure. Special mention for nurse Priscar, thank you for the giggles and for holding my hand through it all. The hospital pharmacy needs to pull their socks up, if a patient is ready to be discharged at 4pm and the meds are at the dispensary it’s ridiculous for them to only be getting discharged at 6 because you guys are sitting on your bottoms. The lovely nurse Precious actually ended up going down and fetching them for me. All in all a comfortable stay.
