Amazing food and very well priced. Would definitely make it a regular place to go. Service was great and fast.
Great food and Lorenço Marques ambiance with large mural of the famous Costa do Sol restaurant in LM. The prawns and curried crab were fabulous!
In my opinion this is one of the best restaurants in Johannesburg. It's not classy, not fancy it's just right. If you want a wholesome Portuguese meal then this is the place. The food is fantastic, well priced and only gets better. Our family visits them twice a week.
Had some fantastic meals there and value for money. We have had some not so fantastic meals there as well. If you want chicken livers come to me. My wife really did not enjoy hers at O Galeto. I don't blame her.
Fantastic food...amongst the best that I've had in a while. Service outstanding and the waiters are very courteous. Well priced. Definitely could become my fav place for flame grilled chicken!!
Warm and friendly cosy local restaurant. Fabulous food at reasonable prices. Everything on the menu seems great - right down to the super-fresh rolls served on arrival. Try the Trinchado if you've got an appetite. And it's worth ordering extra veg for the table, the creamed spinach is so good!
We waited quite some time to finally order food from here. So unimpressed though. I had a beef prego which was awful. The toughest meat ever and really had no taste. A real let down as I was so looking forward to trying something new and after the reviews I've seen I thought it would be good. Definitely will never go back.
I never leave reviews, due mainly to the fact that my restaurant experiences for the most part correlate with existing reviews online. But I gotta say, I'm so astounded by the current rating for O Gelato currently around 4.4, in that either we had the one abherrant meal in this restaurant's history, or Uber Eats delivered us food from another O Gelato possibly one located under the Rabie Road bridge, that I just have to leave a remark. In order of ascending awfulness: Our two chicken pregos were tasteless and tiny - seriously, smaller than a sandwich and somehow thinner, with almost non-existent sauce. Creamy chicken livers were... Well, average. Good portion but strangely tasteless. Trinchado was just terrible... Tough, tasteless meat in a watery packet gravy. Chips were a great portion medium but were a mixture of overcooked and chewy, and raw potato. We've been dying to try O Gelato because of the excellent reviews, and because it would be lovely to have a good Portuguese restaurant down the road... So having this experience is quite sad. They also left a Fanta Grape off our order, which in the bigger scheme of things isn't a huge issue but speaks volumes about attention to detail. My experience with this restaurant is so bizarrely against the grain that I feel like I'm on crazy pills... But in any case, we are super disappointed, and still on the lookout for a nice takeaway trinchado.
Ordered 3 Prego Rolls on 11 July. What a let down. The prego roll consisted of a slaped on minute steak with no taste at all of a Portugese prego sauce. Most tastless prego roll I have ever tasted and at R75, granted this included some tastless half fried chips. My wife complained about the tast and quality of the dish. My o my, did she get atitude from the manager. In his words " .... this how they make Prego rolls....". This is not the first time in my life that I have eaten a prego roll and in this instance that dish does not deserve to be called a Prego roll nor does this manager know how to deal with an unsatisfied client. Do not waste your time to go to this establishment, I for one will never support this resturant ever again.
Decent neighbourhood restaurant with great Portuguese food. Four stars instead of five simply because the decor isn't the best. Just go for the food, not to be impressed by anything else, and you'll be happy
