The Port Elizabeth School of Aikido has been running for over 25 years, and instruction is lead by founding member, Colin Beyers (4th Dan).
Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art that was developed by Morihei Ueshiba. Aikido in itself means -the way of harmonious energy-, and Ueshiba designed Aikido so that practitioners can defend themselves from harm while protecting the attacker from injury. By redirecting force instead of opposing it, Aikido requires very little physical strength, but rather a deep understanding of body movement, directional movement and momentum. Aikido employs the use of locks, pins and throws to negate and control attacks.
