Description

The Pretoria National Botanical Garden is one of South Africa's nine National Botanical Gardens. The garden is wedged between Pretoria Road and Cussonia Avenue in Brummeria, in eastern Pretoria, Gauteng, and flanks a central rocky ridge that runs from east to west. The 76ha garden was established in 1946, and of late hosts the headquarters of the South African National Biodiversity Institute.LayoutThe day visitors' entrance is along Cussonia Avenue. This western section contains the wetland, cycad garden, succulent garden, useful plants garden, medicinal garden and enabling garden. Situated among these is a restaurant, concert stage, tea garden and function hall beside an artificial waterfall.Situated around the center of the garden is the National Herbarium, Biodiversity Center and Environmental Education Center. The Mary Gunn Library is housed within the National Herbarium.Aloe Lodge (formerly Velcich House) north of the ridge is destined to house offices of the Working for Wetlands and Grassland Programmes. The eastern side of the garden is less developed. An arboretum and natural grassland is located here, besides the Dassie walking trail along the central ridge, and the garden offices.

A really well kept national treasure. It's huge, I was not able to go through all of it but it's such a beautiful garden with a variety of plants and flowers. Be sure to have picnic blankets and pillows for a relaxed afternoon
The garden is well kept and a delight for anyone who loves nature and indigenous plants. The waterfall in the forest was a wonderful surprise as it looks very natural, we even saw tadpoles at the bottom. The little cafe was friendly and refreshing after a long walk through the grass lands which was full of birds and butterflies.
For a spiritual person like me,it was the perfect place to connect with nature and meditate. It is very quiet regardless of how many people are there.I would recommend it to anyone
This is the one of nature reserve in Pretoria. Enter fee is 40R. I did picnic with my friends and enjoyed hiking. There are beautiful water fall as well, you can relax.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great family outing and a day well spent in this massive park. There's plenty picnic spots to choose from. It's a good place to learn about the different plant and tree species names and their usefulness. Beautiful forest like vegetation with a waterfall. There's a restaurant within the forest. There's enough parking and entrance fee is R55 per adult. The park was clean and all staff was friendly.
A great place for the whole family. Great picnic spots and hiking trails. Tranquil and refreshing environment. There's various plant species and I appreciated that some of them were labeled. There's cafe as well for those impromptu outings. Side note: They have mmilo wild medlar trees. The fruits ripen between Jan and Mar.
Clean, beautiful grounds. You have to pay at the gate and it’s cashless so they only accept cards. The restaurant inside takes cash though.
R55 per person to enter. I am not sure what that attributes to, but if you are eating at their 1Star restaurant you just paid double for a cup of tea. The restaurant is well over-priced. The food is tasteless and dry, and the service is average. Oh, the seafood platter is an eye-sore for the price you pay.
Entrance Fee You pay to enter the place. Adult it was R60. They are going cashless for our security therefore they ask you to pay using your card Picnic There yard is so huge that even in a busy day you would still find your spade for picnic. Braai stands/areas I didn't see any braai areas around the place but you're allowed to do your braai. Resturant There is a Resturant inside the yard. Restrooms The toilets are available on site and free of charge. They are clean except there are no mirrors in the male rest rooms. Places/Things of interest. There's not really so much on site to see as I did go through the Wetlands, waterfall, John Dewey memorial, aloe site, etc they aren't really enticing and not so much information on tree and some of the animals there. It is just a place where you can chill and have your picnic with your friends and family. Yes there are nice places where you can go and take pictures. Overall I am happy with the place. It is safe. Quiet. Playground: There's plenty of space to around for the kids Restrooms: The restrooms are there nice and clean. They smell nice. Picnic area: More spacious and clean.
Went on a Saturday afternoon, surprisingly not packed and ample parking. Bring a card to pay for your entrance fee. Pack a picnic, I found there was more than enough shaded benches so we didn’t even use our picnic blanket maybe on busy days it may come in handy. The bathroom were very clean.
