Celebrated a romantic birthday dinner here and it was magnificent. The service was exceptional. The food and wine while costing a pretty penny was absolutely delicious. The pianist and saxophonist played smooth tunes to set the mood. Definitely a place to celebrate a special occasion.
What a hidden gem!! Qunu was incredible. The food from amuse-bouche all the way to dessert was just a delight for the palette. Alex and rest of the staff were also just amazing. Well done Qunu.
My experience at Qunu was unlike another restaurant I've ever visited. I usually do not travel to countries I've been to before but I may have to make an exception because the experience here was divine. Everything from the entres to the desert was fantastic. Steak Diane is absolutely sublime. I genuinely cannot wait to go back next year. Cheers!
Had the Salmon for starters and was quite bland and uncharacteristic. Had the duck for mains which was fortunately more interesting but still left a lot to be desired. The Chocolate mousse dessert took far too long to prepare and when it arrived, it too was less tasty and less appealing than expected. My guests had a similiar experience with their steaks. An average cullinary experience. Spaciously set out, the restaurant decor was dated and lacked atmosphere and aesthetic appeal. Unimpressed.
Ambience was amazing; serene and a perfect sanctuary Food was absolutely mouth watering: ordered a duck Staff very amazing and always around to help Food portion was small but that’s expected in a fine dining restaurant Desert underwhelming: ordered something with hazelnut… can’t recall the name
Overpriced for mediocre food! The restaurant attempts fine dining but falls pretty short. Lots of waitrons but inattentive and lack the very basic training, e.g if your cutlery is together, you’re still eating, you cannot offer dessert until all at the table are done with mains, you should pour wine after it has been tasted, don’t understand the dishes on the menu. No active or attentive management Overall a rather dissatisfying experience There are far better quality dining experiences available in Johannesburg
We went to the Qunu to celebrate my birthday this past weekend and I was quite disappointed with the entire experience. The waiter was completely inattentive, we had to get his attention for menus, to top up our water glasses and to eventually ask for a wine menu. The sommelier was really top notch and on point and made us feel like we were in a luxury restaurant - the only good star in the place. The food was mediocre at best - I ordered a medium rare ostrich venison, a third of which was served well done. The entire meal was tasteless apart from the charred broccoli which was the highlight of the main course for me. The oysters were really delicious and fresh but being a luxury restaurant, I would have anticipated the chef serving it with a handcrafted granita of sorts and not just the traditional Tabasco sauce. Never have I ever tasted a choux pastry as hard as the ones at Qunu. My stomach churns at the price paid for the “value” of food we received. Never again.
Wonderfully appointed, starters were disappointing, main course was great. Fantastic wine list and wonderful service
