Read For Fun, also known as The Bedrock Reading and Literacy Programme, has proven to be beneficial as an early reading programme for all children in any context.
Read For Fun has a distinct advantage in that it does not require lengthy training periods. Anyone who can read can use this approach to teach children the underlying skills required for reading.
Developed by Jackie McDonell, whose lifelong passion has been the pursuit of discovering effective ways to assist children to read and write, Read For Fun has two objectives:
To teach children to read English via a method that can be facilitated by anyone who has an ability to read out loud to the child learning to read
To give children who have learning problems a better chance of learning to read and thereby become functional in both their school environment, and later in the workplace
