A revolutionary mobile art exhibition of the most famous paintings in the world presented to students in and around South Africa.
Background:
Because of the position of South Africa and our current economic and political situation, most South Africans are and will be unable to travel abroad. This also means that there is a large part of international culture that South African’s will never experience. One of the issues that ReplicART addresses is the lack of exposure to international art culture.
South Africa is a very young country. Our history does not go as far as most of the rest of the world’s countries do. Because of our position at the tip of Africa (far away from Europe- the locus of historic art) and our economic fiascos offer a very weak currency, the majority of South Africans are unable to afford a trip to a museum in Spain or England to see an historic and original piece of art.
Objective:
ReplicArt seeks to reproduce life size, high quality replicas of famous international artwork and exhibit them in South Africa. ReplicArt sets up a temporary exhibit at a school where children are brought in and interactively learn about famous international artwork such as the Mona Lisa, and Starry Night. After the exhibition the children are tasked with an art activity where they have the opportunity to draw a painting or portrait. Our mission is to improve art education and raise awareness of international artwork in developing countries.
Addressing the need:
Art is a part of a very important part of human development, and has a significant influence on human beings cognitive interpretations. It has been academically proven to be able to influence decisions and persona.
New Art vs Iconic Art:
The frequency of changes in art being displayed in galleries is valued by customers as this as it keeps the gallery interesting and gives them a reason to come back. With the ease of acquiring digital replicas, ReplicArt is much better placed to offer value in this area than most galleries. However it must be noted that, it is important for ReplicArt for different reasons. ReplicART is always on the move and our offering is mostly based on the experience we offer, as well as the convenience of our service for schools.
Entertainment:
Our market is school going children, and by maximising their experience, by providing informative and interactive presentations, we create a new excitement around Art History.
Test & Exam preperation:
Our service has been used by some of the most prestigious primary schools in the Western Cape as what the Art tests and exams use to test their learners, as we create an interesting experience for the children which they use to link art and information at a later stage during test/exam preparation.
Service:
When dealing with children, it is important to be friendly and communicate on the same level with them. In order to really educate the children, ReplicArt see that it is important to be able to hold their attention. This involves dedication on the part of the staff. The friendly service will be better than any service in any gallery as we see the value in which it brings – education – compared to galleries whose service involves providing information to sell artwork.
Mobility
ReplicArt is without a doubt the most mobile gallery in South Africa – hosting many events a year. There are no other galleries that entertain travelling exhibitions however because they are two different entities, the process is complex and as a result only tour to a few key spots in South Africa.
Children Orientated:
Art and galleries are not usually associated with children nor do they appeal to children. ReplicArt is the only business, in the art industry at present, that deals exclusively with children (for the time being).
