Rivoningo Women's Forum (RWF) is a centre where under resourced women living in the inner-city of Johannesburg meet regularly to share stories with others.
Rivoningo Women Forum (RWF) is a centre where under resource women living in the inner-city of Johannesburg meet regularly to share their experience with other women, develop practical skills such as sewing, beading and educational knowledge.
RWF was primarily a platform created by women of the Inner City Resource Centre (ICRC), a non-profit organization that fights human rights violations in the inner-city of Johannesburg. These women felt that they were experiencing similar issues, they met, engaged, shared stories and decided to developed these meetings and made them permanent. They organized themselves and initiated supplementary activities.
RWF identified that in the inner city of Johannesburg, many families are headed by women who are unemployed and affected by issues of housing, education, human rights violations. That is why it places its special focus on working alongside with under resource women.
RWF welcomes women from all African’s countries. They learn how to develop a source of income while waiting for better jobs opportunities. Presently, Rivoningo has become a healing and confidence place for many women who have discovered it.
The RWF conducts projects and study groups that assist women with problems such as:
• Access to schools for children
• Access to health-care facilities
• Access to basic services
• Education about evictions
• Women and children abuse
• Sewing project (Wonder bag)
