The trails have a variety of different route ranging from 4 to 12 KM running/walking. The roads you are running on it is quite wide and well-maintained into what seems like a semi private sugarcane farm. That had little pops of really abundant forest through it. It costs R30 to go in there is an honesty box near the parking by the security booth or if you are in need of card facilities you can pay indoor at the cycling shop. The facilities by the trails have a restaurant and a swimming pool which will make for nice use after a long hike.
Definitely one of the top ten trails in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Mainly a cycling trail, though walkers are welcomed on the cycling trails on the understanding that walkers will courteously give way to the cyclists. If walking the various length cycling trails Jason at the Badger’s mountain bike ‍ store in Rocky bay resort will helpfully point you in the right direction, after signing the required indemnity form and paying the 20 Rand per person entrance fee. On the whole the trail is well sign-posted. However some of the sign posts need some TLC as they have rotted and fallen over - in this case common sense on which path to take should see you through . We had the privilege of enjoying the walk whilst the KAP sani2C MTB race passed through.
Trail marking needs a bit, make that a lot, of work. Had to stop and pull out my phone on a few occasions to see if was heading in the right direction. The bicycle shop located inside Badgers is well stocked with all you could possibly need. And to top it all off the food at the restaurant was great !
Did the 29 k route, some lovely and non technical single track, with optional bull runs, which were moderate at best, not too challenging! Course is well marked at most turns,”need to intuit here and their”and some erosion challenges, but really enjoyable and rewarding ride, lots of mongoose, bird life and a few duiker en route.we have done all routes up to the 29 km,which we measured at 25,5? On 2 Garmin and one bicycle computer,so perhaps we took a short cut somewhere. Anyway had a blast and will be back.
We enjoy doing the MTB trails at Rocky bay. They offer a 19km, 29km and a 39km ride. R30 entry is very reasonable entry fee. Some of the sections could so with some maintenance cutting off branches and water damage but worth the ride. Just remember to take enough hydration.
A variety of both trail running and cycle routes, on the beach but trails go inland thru a mixture of farm lands and forests. Some slight climbs but nothing extreme. Trails in good condition very few / no potholes to twist your ankle. Three clean, well maintained shower and toilets for runners and cyclists to clean up. Well worth a visit.
I did the 12km MTB trail few times. I‘ve got the advice from a regular who prefered to do it like that as well, as it is nicer. After the sugar cane parts the forests are a nice shady change with a nice flow. Nothing difficult. Easy to ride. Fun. There was some long grass hitting arms and face and fallen trees, also missing signs @rockybaytrails, DM me for details. Every trail is a win for the South Coast! Go on guys!
Incredible setting. My friends and I enjoyed an amazing hike through this little jewel.
Great place, great value for money, but the trails could be marked better.
Big are with lots of parking, grass green and cut short.
