Lots of items to choose from. Clothing, carvings, paintings, purses, jewelry, chess sets. Bargain with vendors for good price. Remember however that this is their livelihood. They all want you to buy from them, but understand that it's not possible. Be firm but polite. Don't be a stupid, rude American!
Many traders selling crafts, some are actual artisans and some just importers /resellers. It is quite touristy. Prices are quite high, not sure if you should bargain. Food offerings are fabulous with dishes available from all over the world. Parking is available at the mall and there are plenty of toilets.
Lots to find in here! Spent a lot on great deals. Awesome place for artwork, statues and wood carvings. Clothing and souvenirs here as well.
Interested market. A lot of cheap souvenirs are here. annoy the price negotiation but the value to visit
Very friendly and welcoming place with about 200 stalls, variety of delicious food and hand made crafts. A tourist destination as well. Good jazz music live performance SUNDAY ROOFTOP MARKET.
We were captivated at first by the African art and crafts in this market but were quickly put off by the endless persuading sellers. Although they were friendly, they make window-shopping very unpleasant for us because they would not leave us alone to quietly admire the interesting pieces. On top of that, the prices, despite negotiable, are not cheap. In fact, some of the products are also sold in shops at OR Tambo's international departure hall and they are much cheaper there! Despite all that, it is an experience to visit the place.
Perhaps the best place to shop for souvenirs and memorabilia in johannesburg. But you need to bargain and check and compare prices. Dont take the first price you are given. Bargaining is needed and part of the experience. Bought some bracelets, ostrich eggs, woodwork and other souvenirs... minus one star as some shopkeepers are overly aggressive and rude But most shopkeepers are decent people hawking their wares. Worth a visit
Place to go if you're looking for locally handmade art, jewelry, gifts, and small household items. Expect to haggle! Otherwise you'll be paying as much as you would in the "Out of Africa" store, except you get it right from the craftspeople themselves. Admittedly, I'm not the best haggler, so I'm not sure I got the best deals , but I'm happy with the beautiful basket, necklace, and shirt I purchased. Lovely to talk with the vendors, everyone was super friendly.
Grace from STALL 38A was very helpful. She sells quality African handcrafted items
This place is inside the rose bank mall, its so neat and secure, vendors are so friendly and give us opportunity to negotiate the price. these guys have wonderful art work. please support them.
