Sable Dam Overnight Bird Hide, Kruger National Park

Cool spot, close to the Palaborwa gate. You can also sleep over in the bird hide, overlooking a dam. When sleeping over there are braai facilities and bathrooms the bird hide then "transforms" into a bedroom. If you are only a day-visitor there are no bathrooms avaiable at the bird hide. Restrooms: I was only a day-visitor so I didn't see what it offers. Picnic area: There are 2 seperate braai areas.

What an awesome sleepover. The Park supplies everything you need except food , utensils and firewood. We booked on what was going to be the coldest night of the year. We took some extra blankets and warm clothes. We were supplied with a bag for every bed with a pillow, pillowcase, fitted sheet, duvet cover, nice warm blanket and a Mosquito net. Included were 2 spotlights, 2 drums with water and a braai grid. It turned out to be the most amazing night. 2 large herds of elephant as well as 2 large male lions that filled the dusk air with roaring. Definitely a re-do

Nicely laid out birdhide overlooking a dam with some dead trees in it. We didn't sleep over. There were very few birds seen in the time we were there. Also the toilet and picnic facilities are only available for people who sleepover. Restrooms: Restrooms are locked and only available for people who have booked to sleep over at the hide.

Rustic. Sleeping over a great experience. Collect bedding at the Phalaborwa gate. Really get the feeling of being close to nature. Private use of braai fascilities from 5:30 pm to 6:00am. Need to get up at daybreak to catch the hippo going into the dam.

This overnight hide can be booked at the Phalaborwa Gate. Beds with mattresses are build in. Bathroom and braai facilities are available for overnight guests.

The place is great for both day time and night time visitors. You have a beautiful view of the lake’ish kind of place with animals coming over to drink water. Animals are very rare to spot during extremely hot days.

Beautiful spot with loads of animals - if your timing is right. Still want to do the sleepover too.

Awesome hide! But you will usually need binoculars and a good zoom lens to take photos.

Often there might not be much to see, but with some patience, there is always some game or birds coming to the Sable dam for a drink. This summer the dam was very full.
