About

Table Mountain National Park

Description

Situated at the south-western tip of Africa, the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) encompasses the incredibly scenic Table Mountain Chain stretching from Signal Hill in the north to Cape Point in the south and the seas and coastline of the peninsula.

The narrow finger of land with its beautiful valleys, bays and beaches is surrounded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the warmer waters of False Bay and has within its boundaries two world-renowned landmarks - majestic Table Mountain and the legendary Cape of Good Hope.

The Park is recognised globally for its extraordinarily rich, diverse and unique fauna and flora - with rugged cliffs, steep slopes and sandy flats - is a truly remarkable natural, scenic, historical, cultural and recreational asset both locally and internationally. Nowhere else in the world does an area of such spectacular beauty and such rich bio-diversity exist almost entirely within a metropolitan area - the thriving and cosmopolitan city of Cape Town.

A unique feature of the TMNP is that it is primarily an open access Park with only three points where conservation fees are payable, Cape of Good Hope, Boulders and Silvermine, the rest of the Park is open access and free for all to enjoy.

Wow! If you go to Cape Town you have to go to top of Table Mountain. I went by the cable car which has a rotating floor providing different views as it moves up and down! Fabulous views and walking paths around the top! I spent an hour and a half hiking around and one could easily spend more time at the top or hike up or down. I wasn’t hungry but cafe at top serves delicious looking pizza, hamburgers, French fries and other items as well as water, soda and local beers!
I haven't hiked since Covid. It was so great to climb the Mountain again. It was exhausting yet worthy. I can do it 10x more. Best place ever.
Oh my goodness. I have never died and been to heaven but I can bet my life that Table Mountain is a mini heaven. We were so high up. The cable car ride was as short as it was supposed to be as hiking around the mountain was spectacular. I wish everyone could experience it. I took so many pictures and still I'm in awe
We hiked Lion's Head. We started a little later, but it was fascinating! Four of our group of five had flashlights so we felt safe. We saw the sunset on our descent. My 46 year old legs were not happy for the next 2 days. It was totally worth it still! Restrooms, without toilet paper, were open at the ranger station before you drive up to park at the trailhead.
A wholesome morning spent at Table Mountain. Went hiking up the mountain. Took us 3 hours to get to the top. It was like climbing up really steep stairs continuously from start to finish. It was amazing when we finally made it! The views as you climb up and when you get to the top are breathtaking!! It's best to go on a day where there will be clear skies. We then had lunch at the eatery there. We took the cableway back down and it awesome! Definitely will be going back some time in the near future.
It's a famous mountain in the world! The mountain looks like truly table. The top is so flat. I recommend to go there no booking because sometimes the mountain is covered with clouds. So you can change the day.
I have so many beautiful memories of this park. The first time I visited was in 1976. I must have visited about 9 times already. It’s just something you never tire of. If you have not yet been to Table Mountain then you should put it on your bucket-list for sure. The views are amazing and depending on the weather , the landscape changes all the time. Every time I visit it’s as if I’m visiting for the first time. The mountain, the sea and the surrounds are breathtakingly beautiful It is lovely to just explore but remember to bring a jacket with as it tends to be cooler on the mountain and ofcourse you just never know with the weather as it changes unexpectedly. There are clean toilets and a restaurant on the mountain, although I have never eaten there as they are not strictly halaal but that never stops us from visiting. Can’t wait to visit again. With all this natural beauty, no wonder it is one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Very amazing view, when the weather is clear atleast. We went up when it was very cloudy unfortunately, it was that or nothing. Near the end of our trip it started clearing up and the view is incredible. They have walkways around the path, but some of them are very hard to realize it's actually a path and you can get off the path easily
Absolute must go if you're in Cape Town! The views are just stunning!! A hike is great if you have the time, but if not the cable car is great. Do the entire walk at the top for views from different sides. It takes 2hrs for the entire top. I recommend online booking to avoid queues. Also don't book too much in advance due to cloudy weather blocks views.
The view was just amazing and even more during the sunset. Even with a long queue, we did not wait more than 30 min to go in the cable car. You will be able to find food and drink there.
