Simondium's Country Lodge

We had our 50th school reunion this past weekend and it was amazing. The venue, the food, the accommodation, the friendliness. Will recommend any time.

The lodge and grounds are beautiful, a shabby chic paradise with peacocks, a ballroom, two vintage-style chapels, even an old railroad car, just made for your photos on Instagram. The restaurant, Gordyntjies -- Afrikaans for tiny kitchen curtains -- is the best-kept secret in the wine region, and the smartest thing you do today is call to ask about the lunch specials. I love the Tuesday-Thursday 65-rand burger but the clear, almost unbelievable winner is Friday's sirloin steak, brought to you on a sizzling cast-iron platter for an unbelievable 95 rand. I love these people, love their lodge, and can't wait to go back.

Had a year end Christmas Lunch here, staff are friendly and professional, new venue space is really stunning, food is good value for money, good bar prices and the pool makes a wonderful addition on a hot day!

Simondium's was our wedding venue of dreams - well priced, accommodation on site for guests, rustic and elegant chapel, stunning lush green gardens, complete with peacocks roaming the grounds for extra fairytale feels! It was truly a magnificent day, and we were so happy with how our vision for the day came to life at this most beautiful venue! We highly commend the entire team's hard work on our big day, but for the months of prep beforehand, we must give a huge thanks to Hanneke - her endless patience, answering all of our constant questions - it was amazing 5 star service to us. Our family and friends were very impressed with the venue itself to stay at, and most especially the FOOD!!! It was such generous portions for our wedding menu, and all so delicious, so that was a definite highlight for most and they made note to mention it to us! We were also very pleased with the staff's hard work and service at the wedding itself. We can't recommend this special venue enough, it will forever hold a very special place in our hearts.

Stayed for 2 nights, attended a wedding. Great venue, affordable, clean bedding & rooms, peaceful and homely. The food is fantastic and the staff friendly and helpful. Even though I understand the concept of "rustic ", I do feel the place is in need of a bit TLC. Maybe a lack of income due to Covid is to blame here because it really does seem like they care a great deal about their guests, making sure everyone is looked after. It would also be nice if they could do something about the acoustic in the reception hall, very noisy with sound just bouncing off the wall. Overall experience, great. Hope to be back someday soon.

This place is a gem. It takes you back in time, whilst making you feel right at home. One thing that particularly stand out to me, is their fantastic food. We buy takeaways from them on a weekly basis. I feed my whole family of 4 with ONE of their pizza's. The topping is in abundance, their bases are proper one's and the taste is fantastic. YOU WILL NOT GET VALUE LIKE THIS ANYWHERE IN THE WINELANDS AREA.

Really enjoyed the venue and peaceful surroundings. The little church where the wedding was officiated was small and is perfect for a small wedding. The Gin bar and sliders that were served, while the photos were being taken, was excellent. At all times, the staff members were very well organized. Later all the guests, were ushered into the reception hall, where super was served. Our compliments to the cook and kitchen staff, who served a very good menu. From the roast lamb to the pumpkin fritters, veggies, rice and chicken, not one fault could be found. The burgers were perfect for the younger children. The portion sizes were ample. Then ending the meal with the Brandy Tart and Creme Brulee was amazing. The Bar had a good variety of alcohol and very reasonable prices. If I were to advise the venue management of slight changes, it would be that a good MCC should be served at the bar. We have, in the past, bought the MCC produced at the farm and must add that it is good. Also the portion sizes are too big and also of wastage was observed. Possibly give the guests a choice of the two desserts, and not both at a time. All in all, value for money and an excellent wedding/birthday venue for guests totaling +-70 people.
