Stone Hill

Stone Hill is a gem, just 40mins outside of Johannesburg it is a wonderful place for a weekend away. And it's pet friendly so that means the dogs can go too. Our kids loved riding their bikes and walking the trails, our dogs loved the doggy pools along the route. Caroline, Mark and John are exceptional hosts, we really enjoyed the breakfast each morning which was not only tasty but in such a great setting. We will definitely be back as soon as we can! Walkability: You can walk around the entire property and the walking trails are great. Food & drinks: The breakfast was fantastic!

Stone-Hill is a lovely getaway spot for anyone who wants to take their dogs on holiday with them. The facilities are geared toward fur babies and your wish to spend time with them while also getting away from it all. There are splash pools for pets and a pool for humans. Walking their 2.5km/ 5km trail through the veld is a great off lead activity morning or evening and there is a nearby river walk or 12km trail for the more adventurous. The overnight cabins are simple but well equipped and comfortable each with great perks such as private garden with braai and fireplace. There are also added benefits such as being able to order freshly baked bread, farm fresh eggs and firewood prior to your stay. The staff are friendly and one feels at home fairly quickly. Stone-hill is highly recommended for some who wants to focus on rest and relaxation with their human and furry family.

Would definitely recommend a stay here ! Gardens are clean and secure, chalets are well equipped and super super clean the beds are amazing you’ll have the best nights sleep. Lovely off leash walking trail with great views, units are close enough to each other to feel secure but spaced and positioned for enough privacy dogs don’t constantly bark at each other. Great hosts! Perfect spot for a weekend getaway.

What a beautiful place with loads of trees, friendly owners and staff. Safe, private and secure. Loved the outdoor shower, plunge pool and braai area. I love that it's pet friendly!Rooms: 5/5

Had one of our most relaxing weekends away at Stone Hill. Had everything we needed! We brought both our kitty and puppy. Great walking trails, clean cottages, PONIES!, privacy, great service and delicious breakfasts. The freshly baked bread was out of this world.

What a wonderful stay. Caroline and James have thought of everything to make not only their guests feel appreciated and welcome, but to create an endearing and unique travel experience for all who visit the lodge. Whether looking for a romantic trip for two, a family trip or a place to let your hair down and have a weekend away with friends, Stone Hill is the place for you. The cottages are fully equipped and comfortable, with such unique and interesting touches, not forgetting the most incredible views from the private patios and gardens. The weekend breakfast hosted at the Lapa is an absolute must, with exceptional service and the most incredible food, especially the freshly baked homemade bread and flapjacks. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful weekend away.

The care and kind consideration for my dogs was amazing! We had a pleasant walk on easy trails where we were absorbed by the geology, archaeology, plants and trees.Rooms: 5/5

I go to this place every winter! It's pet friendly with an enclosed garden. The cottages are cosy and has everything you need. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful. My favourite part is the walking trail where your pets can be off leash. It's a quiet & beautiful haven.

It's such a nice place to get some rest away from the city. Great bird life there, and it was fun feeding the ponies. Our doggy also had a fun time there and on the hikes there.Rooms: 5/5

@stonehill is an amazing dog friendly venue, definitely the place to go for a short break, to get away from all the hustle and bustle. Just an hours drive out of Johannesburg, great for a peaceful, relaxed weekend. Individually fenced chalets, with enough space between cottages to remain completely private. We stayed in a one bedroom chalet called CabbageTree, which was fully equipped with everything you need as well as a private patio,garden, braai area & splash pool with a pool cover, and an outside shower, there is also an aircon & king size bed. They have well maintained walking paths where our little ones where able to run off lead which they absolutely loved. Caroline is a very welcoming host and Bukhosi is very knowledgeable and accommodating and then of course there is Aaron, who runs the buffet breakfast and bakes the most delicious farm bread, everything on the buffet was fresh and the flapjacks amazing! There is ample space to run around and explore with spectacular views that are soul soothing, and super friendly ponies, that came to visit daily, take some apples & carrots with to feed them. If you are looking for peace, tranquillity  & some quality time, Stonehill is the place to do it, it is close to JHB but yet you feel so far away.
