Untamed Africa with Giant, charging Elephants and roaring lions, putting the whole environment closest to nature. It is estimated that the lion packs are over 50 000, with elephants being the dominant large animals. Maps are useful for the various pathways and makes navigating through a lot easier. The place is replit with bucks of various types. The Watch Tower is a Marvell to be at and makes you appreciate the enormity of the 30 000 hectares Elephant Park.
We visited the park for a day and drove most of the tracks in the park. 4x4 only due to thick sand. We saw one elephant, some buffalo, giraffe and smaller game. The Bush was very dense, so difficult to see animals sometimes. The hides were excellent and the scenery beautiful. We enjoyed our time there and will definitely visit again.
Nice Camp for doing game drives. We had a very good driver, he explained us all over the area, nature, history and the animals. In the tent mosquito nets are missing.
We enjoyed our stay at the park, the breakfast and dinner was pleasant but the lunch was straight out of an I & J box- the staff were friendly and helpful but we were taken aback by the “we don’t clean your room or make your bed” due to Covid excuse - yet the massage bed was set up 2 metres from your room and they were more than willing to continue this service at a price. The facilities around the reserve were great and although we did self drive - we found the rangers knowledgeable and willing to assist.
Terrific Tembe! A fantastic experience in the wonderful Tembe Reserve! Lovely comfortable tents. Super friendly, helpful and efficient staff! Knowledgeable and entertaining Game Guides. Delicious meals and their chefs went the extra mile to meet my picky dietary requirements. Awesome lion and elephant sightings. We will definitely return!
Great African experience, Tembe has over 220 elephants roaming within their 30 thousand hectare park, along with the remaining animals of the Big 5! The lodge itself is really well equipped for its location, catering for any and all dietary requirements. Pricing includes all meals and 2 game drives a day with their game viewing vehicles. Getting up close and personal to these elephants is almost guaranteed. Only cons is the extremely dense bushes throughout most of the park, their sandy roads are quite bumpy and you do hear noise from the main road at night/early morning even though you're quite far into the reserve.
Tembe always a great visit for us. Visited in 2012 and again today. Many more improvements done, definitely worth the trip!! P.s...there is a difference between AWD and 4WD 4x4 a couple of fancy AWD vehicles got stuck in deep sand on the way to the lookout tower - best to have full 4x4 H&L ranges if you plan to do a "self drive" in most of the park!
Staff were amazing at tembe. Really took care of us and our driver Nkosi was highly knowledgeable regarding the bird species. They keep you very well fed and the food is great. Tents are lovely and we'll equipped.
A 300 km^2 nature reserve, that offers an opportunity to see the Big 5. There is a lodge situated in the reserve and you can book for a game drive at the lodge or at Thonga Safari Lodge. If you are more adventurous and you can manage a 4×4 on pretty tricky sand roads then the self-drive option is a must. If you are lucky and hit your drive just at the right time, you might just be the only car in the reserve. Huge amount of game and if you are fortunate enough you may just be able to experience seeing the Big 5.
We visited Tembe Elephant Park for the third time in the beginning of May 2018, and stayed at the lodge for two nights this time. We love this place. Staff at the lodge is very friendly, the atmosphere at the lodge and in the park unique. Price is really very reasonable, we've never found a cheaper place where everything is included.
