Bush camp with limited facilities. No electricity, cold water, empty pool and a swings for kids. Nature at its best Playground: Swings and jungle gym Restrooms: Need a serious lot of TLC Dog-friendliness: No Picnic area: Not available
Needing to pay Ezemvelo and Isimangaliso to gain entry to the park and camping spot is a ripoff. If you have a Wild card Isimangaliso will not recognize it but will give a discount if you have a Rhino Card. To add to my frustration we stayed there for 5 nights. No animals in the park unless you love looking at birds. Weenen Game Reserve offers 10time better viewing, selection of animals and camping facilities. The only nice thing in the park is their hides. Nice structures but pointless unless you looking for birds and to stretch your legs. The camping, a nice site and does get kept clean. However power is limited from 5am to 8am and then again 5pm to 10pm. Kgalagadi offered better 5am till 10pm and also on generators. Taking a shower is a gamble every time. From being left stranded in the shower lathered up in soap because of no water all of a sudden, no hot water or being intermittent. To no water whatsoever the last evening and day of our visit. Out of the 5 days I had 2 nice showers. This is a park that I don't think I will ever visit again and will make it a point to avoid. O you paid to get in but will not let you out unless you give them the receipt back. Otherwise they will fine you R500. Something they don't tell you booking in.
Really been pleasantly surprised the campsites are need grass cut ablutions need and clean
Not wonderful but fair. Would be much better if they sorted out power supply. Good birdlife
very underrated reserve in my opinion. lots of plains game, we saw some of the big 5 in only 1 day and a serval even. Beautiful hides, Roads in the reserve are well mainained, just the roads to the reserve, through rural areas are bad. Campsite was clean, we heard hyaena during the night, just no electricity and only warmish showers, in winter thats a struggle. But otherwise really happy with our visit
Facilities are in need of maintenance, access road to the park is not good. I tolerate the problems because the nature is stunning. Park is quieter than most. Game is around, but the birding is unbelievable
The game reserve is wonderful place to visit particularly the hides and pans. I sincerely hope the lockdown period will be utilized to give the campsite a good dose of maintenance. The ablutions have all the facilities but very seldom work either no hot water or no water at all. On previous visits we have reported issues but there is clearly no will to comply. Please make an effort we would love to come back!
The Game Reserve is about 20km from the town of Mkhuze , through a gravel road which takes you through rural natal. The gravel road is in okay condition and doable with a normal sedan. The game reserve is a big five game reserve but it is very difficult to spot any game in summer, we saw very few animals, but the park itself is beautiful and the hides are peaceful and in excellent condition. The tar roads in the reserve and gravel roads are also in good condition. If you keen on spotting more game your chances are better in hluluwe, however the park is worthwhile and quieter and relaxing.
While I would like to give it five stars because it is a beautiful campsite and the staff are friendly and do what they can with what they are given. The ablutions need some work and the pool is really a frog pond. Electricity runs a few hours a day in the morning and evenings which suits me just fine. Just FYI. Sadly not a huge number of the big game left. Birding is always good
Lovely campsites, amazing birdlife, basic ablutions, hot showers. Peace and quiet in abundance.
