Our 4 year old was mistreated by a little boy in her class and the school was disinterested and denied serious action. We’d realized changes in her behavior and she complained that a certain child was hurting her. When I asked the teacher I was told she hadn’t noticed anything but would encourage them to find other friends if need be. Putting it down to a bad day we said it was ok. After her behavior became more out of character we took her for some play therapy and the therapist said there was so bullying but not sure who the bully was. It wasn’t until a play date with this child that we saw very unsavory behaviors. Swearing at his parents, hitting and shouting at our child and his parents expressed concern that he’d repeatedly stolen things from school and that at his previous school he needed to go to counseling for aggression and hurting others. We tried to limit contact with the family and encouraged our child to play with others. We coincidentally moved into the same complex as the family of the bully and things got crazy because they were at our home daily. Unannounced and uninvited. We noticed things went missing and spoken to his parents who joked he had sticky fingers. We asked the school to monitor it after he stole her purse at tuck one day. Our daughter has a scratch next to her eye and said it was this child again. She’d have nightmares crying “I’m not stupid, I don’t have a small pain John Doe”. After our daughter was strangled by another child after being accused of stealing something that her bully was last playing with, we asked for her to be moved from his class. The teacher agreed and said she had seen him become aggressive with our daughter. She was doin well for a while and our “friendship” with his family broke down, because they got the hint. So there was some space and then she regressed again. I asked the new teacher if nothing had taken place? She said our little one was hiding from him during break. We argued with his parents and removed her from school. We went back for a meeting at the school 3rd meeting and we told his behavior was normal and that the school could not help for his behaviors outside of school but would keep them apart during class but not at break or at aftercare. They denied knowledge of him stealing items from other children and school equipment. Barring one incident. We were told that if the teachers didn’t see it they couldn’t confirm that it had happened. We were then told that if we weren’t happy with their resolve that we should investigate other schools. We were disappointed and heart broken beyond belief but couldn’t let our child be called names and be hurt and have her stuff stolen and then be told its normal when we raised the issue. Pathetic treatment !
Well developed school with great learning environment. The staff are welcoming. Montessori and Waldorf are indeed among the best learning systems. Cotswold does best to implement the Montessori approach/ system.
7 years later all I can say is that this is overrated School with unqualified teachers and Management that is concerned about defending itself, its actions and those of its unqualified teachers... the department of education must be informed about this. Something needs to be done. You raise a grievience management refues to deal with it, indefence of itself and its unqualified teachers. Bad school with low key institutionalised racism. Useless school
Good school with excellent and supportive teachers. My child attended the school for 10 years and enjoyed the school.
