This grocery store is a one-stop-shop for all your needs. With a wide variety of fresh produce, pantry essentials, and friendly staff, it offers convenience, quality, and a delightful shopping experience.
Do not go here for groceries! The milk we got was spoiled and they saw us coming as tourist and drastically increased the pricing of the food. We had 2 back packs worth of essentials after we came in from the USA and they sought to take advantage of us! The owner of the store suggested we buy things from his restaurant, but all we were looking for was some chicken to put into the stir fry that my wife was making back at our rental place around the corner. The lady at the cash register rang us up for 90 pounds, which seemed like a lot, but I was OK to pay it and get home. She forgot to ring up the precooked chicken as they didn’t have raw chicken to sell. After this was added, the bill went to 148 pounds! I’ve never paid 58 pounds for some marinated precooked chicken. It was perhaps 2 lbs worth of food. I was shocked! I told the gentleman that was too much. I asked him point blank how much the chicken was and he said 37 pounds. How does it go from 90 pounds to 148? He added 57 pounds for some chicken because he saw I was a foreigner there shopping with my 9 year old daughter. I said this is too much, but was not ready to put up a big argument. He gave me a ‘discount’ he said and it was now 136 pounds out the door. I do not recommend this location as they will take advantage of you! Instead, go to Sainsbury across the street from the Holborn tube station. They are by far the most reasonable in the area and even less expensive that’s Co-Op with a much greater selection. Never buy groceries at the People’s Supermarket. It’s unfortunate, but they cannot be trusted!
The People's Supermarket was opened May 2010, designed to enable healthy food to be supplied to an inner city urban community at affordable prices and inspired by peoples' willingness to exchange their time for other value. It was founded as a co-operaative and changed its legal status in September 2013 to a community interest company. The supermarket provides the local area of Midtown, London, with a unique combination of grocery store, production kitchen and events, such as supper clubs. It formed part of and supported the development of Lamb's Conduit Street, Holborn, which has featured the arrival of independent fashion shops and a branch of global brand J Crew. For its innovative approach to food, community involvement and local development, the venture has won several awards, including Future Minds Award for Innovation 2011 and an Observer Ethical Award 2011 The venture was supported at start-up by many organisations, including the London Borough of Camden, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Fredericks Foundation, private companies and many local people. In 2011, it was visited by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron  as a flagship of the Big Society initiative..
Not good at all. Poor choice, overpriced and poorly maintained. Generally grubby and unloved.. Very slow service, I've frequently given up and walked out without any goods. I have stopped using this store now. There is better nearby.
Disgusting supermarket. The shop is so dirty. The fruit and veg section is swarmed with fruit flies. The floors are so dirty. The place is falling apart. The staff are rude and slow. It feels like you’ve walked in during an argument between them. Such bad vibes. To top it all off after all of these negatives. You go to pay and they charge you £2.60 for two peppers or £5 for 500g of Gnocchi! I shall not be back.
Health hazard, avoid. Sold me a frozen samosa as fresh.
I've been using this shop for years, but made a strong resolution not to any more. You always feel like you're in a way and staff has other things to do. The till is super slow, things just don't work very often card machine, scanner, the atmosphere between the staff also seems tense. And on top of that are the high prices. Time to organize myself and get my lunches sorted elsewhere.
I love the store, it's our closest local store which usually has everything we need on short notice. The staff is nice, but the choice of items is peculiar and the prices are higher than expected.
Things are not priced and that made it hard for me to choose, however when I asked the staff he was quite helpfull and friendly.
This place is excellent for freshly made wraps and rice bowls they even give a NHS discount if your part of the hard working key workers. I had the falafel wrap and it was just perfect, you choose your own salads and well as sauces and heated/ toasted to your preference. Great place
