The Rainbow Cupcake Co.

A few weeks ago we went to the Tygerberg store and was really disappointed in the cupcakes. I wrote a review here and got a quick response that the store would like to replace the bad cupcakes we had. The service was great and appreciated, and it’s best to say that the cupcakes we had were a bad batch because the ones that were replaced tasted just as I remember them, a dream. Especially the vanilla caramel one. Hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else though.

the rainbow cake is quite literally the best cake i’ve ever had in my entire life. and i love cake. it’s definitely pricy but well worth the splurge.

We have been supporters of Velvet Cake Co since their first little cupcake shop in High Street - before they were a franchise. Since then, we have seen their prices become absurdly high probably double while their quality has gone backwards. We are shocked that they now ask people to pay so much money for cake that is not only dry and stale every time I have bought it in the last year probably about 4-6 times, but is also not even mixed properly. Their icing has gotten less used to be our favourite part, their perfect recipe has been downgraded, and the overall value for money is now appalling. I understand that times are tough for small businesses, so we can perhaps understand them cutting corners like making the product and the icing smaller, but at least get the basics right I.e. don’t serve stale, improperly mixed cake. I see many others have been experiencing the same, so I believe they’ve now lost a few longstanding faithful clients.

Extremely disappointed the cake was stale, it was crumbly, has bits of unblended mixture and absolutely tasteless. It was the first time in a long time I got out to make it my mission to get myself a slice as I live quite far from both branches so I was really looking forward to enjoy a slice of joy on my birthday, but now I have to throw the entire slice away.

I ordered a large Cream Cheese Chocolate cake for New Year’s Eve 2021. My cousin accepted the delivery and said the driver was delightful. That’s where the delight ended. The cake itself was a colossal disappointment. There were pieces of unblended mix in the cake tasted salty as well as unblended butter or cream cheese in the frosting. It was super gross and we had to pick these little salty balls out of the cake. I’ve been a supporter of The Velvet Cake Co since the beginning, when they had a single store in Bella Rosa. As they’ve expanded, their prices have literally doubled while their service and quality have declined.

The cupcakes were stale and had an uneven mixture.

The Velvet Co is the best. Excellent service. Was delivered on time. The cake was much more than we expected. The taste is absolute fantastic. Everybody on the party loves it. Will defintely order for the next bithday.

As soon as lockdown was lowered I put an order in for a spoil and oh was it a fantastic spoil. Delicious carrot cake cupcake, chocolate cake and my favourite rainbow cake Delicious and friendly delivery too

This was the saddest retail betrayal for me. We ordered a cake for a birthday and not only was the cake pathetic in size, but it tasted awful. It was dry, tasteless and had the horrible aftertaste of bicarb. I've been supported the Velvet Cake Company since their first store but now I strongly suggest just buying a Woolies cake. You'd be less disappointed. Utterly disheartening to see a brand decline in quality and taste. Do NOT recommend.
