I was a student there this year, in Cape Town, for my Psychology Honours. Coming from a public university, I thought that SACAP, being a private institution would create a better environment than a public institution. This year has been amazing and I’ve met amazing people and was forced to think outside the box. However, from my perspective and my experience this year, I would not put this private institution above a public one. My first concern in the beginning of the year was that we pay a lot of money to the institution but we have to pay for parking ourselves across the street which if you add it up, comes to a big amount of money you spend just on parking. And at the end of the year, you have to PAY to get your academic transcript, they don’t give it to you like all the other institutions. Another concern was that the supervisors they assign to some groups for the thesis were just ridiculous . We raised our concerns more than once over the year but nothing was done about it - keeping in mind that at the end of the day this affects our marks - we were not the only group to complain about this. On top of that, they have several different markers for the thesis and some marked really lightly and others mark extremely harsh, making it unfair in the end. We had several small issues that we brought up with SACAP throughout the year but we never got any solid feedback, instead they just gaslighted us into thinking we were silly for bringing it up. It was a good year, but think twice before you pay so much money and you don’t get the support you actually need.
Great college to aquire new knowledge about psychology. They offer a variety of courses that could suit your needs. The only problem as a student I feel they should have admin/financial team at hand when one has any questions regarding their course, one has to wait long periods to meet up with the admin/financial team. But overall the lecturers are amazing and makes your learning experience absolutely great.
I have a first year mate who goes there. For anyone thinking of doing undergrads here, take this as a sign, just go to UCT for a BA.
Have contacted them 4x times in 6 months for more information on programmes. I am still waiting for a response.
