The Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT has the oldest medical school in Southern Africa.
Over 100 years ago, the Faculty of Health Sciences opened the doors of its campus on the slopes of Devil's Peak in Cape Town. In the years that followed, the Faculty has been home to a number of experts in their medical and scientific fields - and a remarkable array of achievements, from the first heart transplant to major advances in finding a vaccine for TB.
The mission of the Faculty is to address the health challenges facing South African and African society by promoting quality and equity in health care services, educating health practitioners for life and undertaking research relevant to Africa's needs.
