I recently dined at Vadivelu and was thoroughly impressed by both the exquisite cuisine and the impeccable service. The menu showcased a variety of innovative dishes, blending bold flavors and beautiful presentation. The attentive and knowledgeable staff ensured that our meal was a memorable one, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring our satisfaction. We started off with two starters, the Curry Bombs and the trio samosas. The Curry Bombs, oh my goodness, the flavor was so delicious, I immediately understood why it came highly recommended. The samosas were out of this world, I ended up eating the presentation, it was that good! Jason came to me and asked how things were and we asked for further recommendations for the main, we got abounding portions that we had to take away. I ended up licking my fingers, I cant remember having to do that before. The atmosphere was homely and such a vibe. I loved the waiters and their sense of humour. The Vadivelu team surely made every customer feel like family and friends. It felt homely to see Jason sit down with customers who had smiles on their faces, it hit differently. I can’t recommend Vadivelu enough for a fantastic dining experience. Thank you to my new profound chill spot, see you guys soon!
It’s been a very long time since I enjoyed dinner this much! Excellent Southern Indian dishes beautifully presented by well trained serving staff. Amazing variety of dishes with a nice selection for vegetarians & vegans. The potato dosa…! What Vadivelu does with potato is pure magic. One bite and it’s obvious why the prawn curry is a firm favorite. Same for the lamb chops. It’s very hard to pick a personal favorite. We opted for many dishes and shared. I suggest you do the same! The decor of this new restaurant is contemporary but warm. The fireplace was stoked that added to the ambiance and comfort on this cold and rainy Tuesday night. However. The vibey restaurant was filled to capacity. The hospitable owners and management team must be a major contributor to that. Booking essential or the likelihood of disappointment for walk-ins is substantial.
I wanted to love this restaurant. Indian food is good in winter and Cape Town doesn't offer enough Indian food selections. I am frequent in reviewing Indian restaurants worldwide so my views might be different to others, favouring the Dishoom style restaurants. Aesthetically Vadivelu is nice with light green and orange tones, away from the antique look that Indian restaurants have become known for. I liked that the menu is limited with options, suggesting preffered dishes. We ordered 3 starters - the samoosa trio, onion bhaji and curry bombs. All 3 starters were served with a large serving of sweet chutney and carrat, tomatoe sambal which seems to have been made days before and didnt complement the starters. The flavours were timid, the bhajia wanting of a pinch of baking, potatoe samoosa of the trio out of stock. For mains, we had the Durban Curry and Tikka Masala with paratha and both served standard with rice. There was a slight artificial flavour to the curries, loaded with the "economy garlic", also smeared on the parathas. Vadivelu wasn't the best food experience for me.
What a pleasant surprise. One of the best and most tasteful food in Cape Town. The owner is so welcoming and the service is great. Highly recommend the prawn curry and Durban lamb curry. Love how they structured the wine list according to R200, R400 and R600 bottles. Beautiful selection Thank you so much. We will be back
This restaurant is going places! The best Indian food with a bit of a fusion twist. My mouth is still watering thinking of our delicious meal last night. We are going back tomorrow! Highly recommended but you must book as they have been packed every night since opening! yum-delicious!Food: 5/5
Our second time in 2 weeks and the food was even better. We tried the Prawn and Fish curries this time and they are incredible. Jason, Kevin and the team were once again on top form. The place was packed and atmosphere brilliant. Invited 4 friends who claimed to be curry aficionados and they loved it. Our friend from Durban said the Durban Chicken Curry was out of this world. Brilliant all round - well done Vadivelu. You have raised the bar.
Great atmosphere, excellent food and lovely service. All the best with your new restaurant Jason and Co.
Absolutely outstanding! So unique and refreshing.. Just what Cape Town needed in the Indian Food industry. From the moment we walked in, I felt we were part of this loving Indian family . I asked for recommendations and immediately had a sample veg curry in front of me to taste the “heat” paired with a beautiful glass of Saronsberg Provenance. I ate the tandoori paneer curry and my husband had the butter chicken - both dishes were mouth-wateringly delicious. Don’t wait! Book your table today and make sure to have the buttery paratha. - best I have tasted outside India! We will definitely be back soon! x Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian and vegan options
Appreciated the service, ambience and location! Having had quite a fair share of Chicken 65 in India and a few other places, I was excited with the prospect of having a place I could go to here for my favourite South Indian dish. Let's say this, that if I were eating it without knowing it's meant to be Chicken 65, I would appreciate it. So that definitely can do with improvement and perhaps a little more portion for the Pani Puri which I think is over priced for what they are. I will go back in the future though, just to try their Dosas out since that's another South Indian favourite. Keeping my fingers crossed for that one
Our first time at this 3 week old restaurant. Was pleasantly surprised by the Great vibe and super friendly staff. Our food was delish, the waiting staff great only been there for 3 weeks, was a bit too hot in restaurant with fire going. Will most certainly be back to check how they settled in a months time.Food: 4/5
