The Clearmont Virgin Active has the best pool in the city. I've been to them all. Beautiful surroundings. Clean Equipment. The suana is a bit messed up - and I'm not talking about the lawyers. Just kidding it's the accountants. Good people all round. Even the cleaners are lekker people. Always fairly busy and for good reason.
Gym is fine. Parking is an issue. Only 90mins free - then you have to pay. Not enough time if you have an hour gym session and shower. Should be 120mins free parking for gym visitors. This spoils the experience…
A well equipped gym - 3 squat racks, 2 smith machines, 2 benches and 1 inclined bench. Quite a few running machines and a nice A/C'ed area for cyling. The pool is spacious and there's also a kiddies' pool on the side. All the staffs are friendly. The reasons why I gave 4 stars are: 90mins free gym parking is too short. You usually end up paying R15 or R20 everytime you gym. And this branch especially is very crowded most of the time, so even with 3 squat racks, unless you go there at the right time during weekends, or close to closing time during the week you need to wait 10-20 minutes just to start going - meaning you only have about an hour till the free parking ends by then. Otherwise this is a good gym.
Clean and well managed. One of the most scenic pools in Cape Town. Parking on the same level as the gym, with +-1.5hrs free. Kauai restaurant onsite too. Lounge area and chairs if you need to wait for someone. Pick 'n Pay downstairs a great value add for quick shopping afterwards.
Such poor service received when trying to arrange swimming lessons for my son after purchasing a package. First unable to agree a date with the swimming teacher. Furthermore no response received on emails from the swim coordinator for over a month. Didn’t expect this poor service at a gym I frequent regularly. Would not recommend these swimming lessons or swim school. Pitched to the pool on numerous occasion to no avail to be told the lesson was assumed to be another day.
I've had a Claremont membership for 5 years which I have just cancelled. This gym has simply become too overcrowded to use. If you want free weights or any equipment be prepared to wait around 5 minutes for any of it.
I have trained here for 3 years now. A lovely gym with lovely facilities but it is ALWAYS FULL. Either they need to stop accepting new members- or they need to expand- it’s incredibly frustrating not being able to find 2 squared meters to train!
Plenty treadmills and spinning bikes. Only couple of bikes work during load shedding. The minus 2 stars are from this gym being overpopulated, swimming pool is full more often than not. Adjustable benches are always full. Needs expansion or bigger venue, or make a different plan.
The main problem with this gym is old Equipment and the gym hvac air flow ,this gym always stink ,the bathroom well that smells like poo and it gets worse during loadshedding .can some please do something call health inspector or something this needs to change and asking Management well they don't look they train at all, strange you would expect fitness people running the gym well that's not the case at all .strange to have people who don't knw much about fitness running the show .it would be best to get some one with passion for fitness to run this gym it's the only way to make big improvements.
Great pool to swim in. I swim almost every day and although it gets busy, there is always space to join in. The staff are friendly and helpful. The treadmills are situated above the pool and so it should be noted that when running or walking on the front row of treadmills, all of the pool's heat travels upwards. Now maybe this makes for a better workout as it gets hot but it can get a bit much. The large sections for any and all types of exercises are great with the bodyweight and pull-up bars being my favourite.
