One of the dirtiest gyms I've been to. Judge for yourself. Spa water is green, the tile grout is black when it should be white, the toilets and stalls look like they've never been wiped.
This place is really old, their equipment is either ancient or doesn't work. The showers are quite old and dirty. However, it has good day care service and the sitters are very good. The day care closes from 2-4pm daily and is closed on Sundays.
EDIT: 2/11/19 1:52 PM Susan, the location manager, called me in regards to my review I posted earlier today. Somebody give this lady a raise. She spoke with me about her same concerns for the cleanliness of the gym and what she's doing as the new manager to resolve the issue. The cleaning crew is outsourced by the corporate office and they are the source for the uncleanliness and she's working hard on bringing it to the corporate manager's attention. I feel better knowing that there is someone like Susan who cares about the satisfaction of her customers. I am thankful that she reached out, as I now feel like my concerns and disappointment was taken seriously and changes are going to be made. I look forward to continuing to go to this facility and see the changes that Susan is working hard on making. ----------------------------------------------- 2/11/2019 12:00 PM Wish I would have stayed at Planet Fitness. This facility is disgusting, outdated, unkempt and uncleanly. I signed up in December, have already been charged $200 for annual fees, initial fees, etc., and after a month being here I have realized I made a horrible mistake. I called to see what my options are for canceling my membership because I'm so disgusted with the level of cleanliness of this facility and they told me that to cancel my membership, it would cost $290 for the remainder of the 1 yr contract that I signed. Wish I could go back in time. I'm so disappointed in this gym. If they cleaned and maintained their equipment and bathrooms, I would feel so much better but for now, every time I get in the pool or drink from the water fountain, I am reminded that this facility has been rotting for 20 years.
I signed up for my membership back in August of 2017 and it truly was one of the best things I could have done. The team members that work here are some of the most, if not the most, friendly individuals I have ever encountered in a gym setting. I have been to different gyms in years' past where everyone from the front staff to the trainers could really care less about you as a person; that has never happened to me at this location. I was nervous about starting to work out back in 2017 and decided to invest in some training sessions. The very first session with my trainer had such a positive impact on me that I knew I was going to come back and that this time, FINALLY, I would stick with working out and make it a part of my life. He treated me, still treats me, as a friend and not just "another client". I see other gym members working out with the other trainers at this gym and I see them treat those they are training with that same friendly attitude and are invested in that persons' well being and progress. I love this location, not just because it is close to where I live, but to be 100% honest, it is because of the team members that work there. As I said above, they are some of the most friendly, even at 6 in the morning. I am always greeted with a smile and "Have a great workout" or "What are you working on today?". I know there are complaints about some of the equipment there, but personally I do not understand why. About a year ago they got new cardio machines, which I still love to this day. As far as weight machines, free weight's, etc. I don't see an issue with any of them. When things break down, which come one people it happens, they address the issue as soon as possible. I read some other posts where there were complaints that free weights weren't re-racked; all I have to say about that is there are signs asking members to re-rack their weights when they are finished so people need to take ownership of that. I will keep coming back to this location because I truly do feel welcome when I step through the front doors. Thank you for helping me live my best possible life!!
I was honestly a little nervous about this place after reading some of these reviews. I went in for a tour to see for myself. They seem to have really stepped up their game on cleanliness. The pool looked and smelled clean no oil/film on the surface, the water was clear and smelled only like chlorinated water and the manager told me they check the PH every 2 hours. The machines looked clean and the manager also told me they were fully wiped down and cleaned twice a day. I looked at the machines and I only saw one with an out-of-order sign. They may not be the most cutting-edge and some places are still covered in 80s pastels but as far as having a clean, serviceable gym nearby I found them to be perfect for what I need. Edit: Some background- I was looking to join this gym for late-night pool use, light dry-land training and the occasional class with a couple of coworkers. I took my tour around noon on a Wednesday and even then I saw a good mix of people from your usual gym-rat/fitness-ad-models to college kids to soccer moms to the elderly so I never felt like I didn't belong or was going to be looked down upon. I don't know about roof-leakage or what it's like in the summer, so I'll have to see how that goes. But otherwise I look forward to working out here in the future.
As a straight male, I have no idea where the complaints about LGBT community members are coming from. I have worked out at this gym for 2 years and have never been harassed or witnessed harassment. Behavior here is no different than any other gym I've seen. From the perspective of someone who doesn't use the cardio equipment much: Pros: Friendly staff again, not sure where the naysayers are coming from, I've never had a bad interaction with them. Very conveniently located - 3 mins off I-80. Even when crowded, there is enough variety of equipment and weights that I usually don't feel the need to wait for something to free up. Cons: Smallish and very crowded 4-7pm. The men's bathroom feels claustrophobic and the stalls can get pretty gross. The roof leaks when snow is melting and the buckets they set out to catch water are pretty ghetto. Not sure I would use the hot tub here as I see people of dubious hygiene in it regularly, though that is probably true of most public hot tubs.
I only use the gym for the classes, which are pretty good. Most teachers offer up modifications for lower or higher intensity. They also use a microphone if the class is higher energy. I definitely like the classes and the times. The staff is really nice and super helpful all the times I've asked for assistance. The floor in the studio could use a good dusting and a damp mop more frequently during the day. It gets dirty with people coming in straight from the street to the studio. They should also consider getting real yoga mats instead of the short multipurpose fitness pads. Parking in the lower level is kinda dark and creepy so I never park down there. The stairwell isn't well marked either. I didn't see an elevator from the garage to the main floor.
This is Gail Liese writing this review, although I believe I can vouch for my husband that he feels the same. I have been working with Personal Trainer Matt Stahl for going on three years now. I can't say enough about how good he is. He stays current on research regarding working out AND nutrition. He is encouraging and keeps me motivated. I have more confidence not only in the gym, but also in other areas of my life because of him. The current club manager, Susan, is doing an unbelievable job. Earlier this year, I spoke to her about the condition of the basketball court floors which were quite dirty. She apologized and explained they were having difficulties with cleaning people. That very day, Susan cleaned the entire floor herself, which must have taken her at least two hours!!!!! She constantly leads her staff by example. I have always loved this gym for its diversity, solid class instructors, and friendly clientele, but Susan has really improved the atmosphere! It is cleaner, and the front desk staff are wonderful, in particular, Erin and Skyler who always greet me by name and have great people skills. I'm retired and plan my days around my gym time. I spend a lot of time here and I love it!!!!
Clean gym with great staff, but it has become quite crowded since the closing of the Trolly Square location. You have to pick your times carefully or you'll be waiting for equipment/getting close and cozy with some sweaty strangers. Going later in the evening 9-10 PM works well. Just wish I didn't have to plan my day around the crowds.
Gym is a POS. Equipment is all broken and missing parts. Took them over a week to replace a fluorescent bulb above the cable machines so that people can see. Gym is dirty. There are copious amounts of black mold in the men's locker room including on the shower curtains, just right there hanging out colonizing the shower room unopposed. Cleaning crew has been cut, the place literally feels like it's going under. Been working out here for 6 years. Feels like whoever owns the place is flat broke and has quit maintaining it. It's like a water park in there when it rains. If the health department came tomorrow, the place would be shut down. Used to be a great facility but has drastically changed due to horrible management. Staff are focused on selling memberships instead of protecting their member's respiratory health by removing the toxic mold from the shower rooms, evidenced by the fact it's been there for months. Black mold everywhere and no one doing anything about it? They know about it, and not even a notice that there are toxic mold spores in the locker room and my respiratory health is in jeopardy? That's criminal negligence.
