516 is a fantastic resource and anchor for contemporary art, both in Downtown Albuquerque and in the region.
Over the last decade the team there has consistently worked with local, national, and international artists to create installations that are thought provoking, relevant, and consistently executed across a variety of mediums, incl. visual arts, mixed media, sculpture, street art & murals, and more.
In addition to hosting exhibitions, in the last few years they've deeply engaged with other arts organizations and anchors, as well as piloting and growing the Andy Warhol Foundation For The Visual Arts' Fulcrum Fund, which supports independent, artist-led projects and spaces, and is an important add to the arts ecosystem in New Mexico. Definitely recommend a visit!

Free gallery/Terrific gallery. Excellent contemplative space. Plaques explaining art were thoughtful and generous in information.
The staff were very friendly and helpful when we had questions.
Though the experience was great, beware of ABQ's art scene.
A few "hipster" folk who looked as though they ripped their outfits and attitudes out of a wannabe Warhol zine displayed their pretensiousness in grandiose fashion.
Some pieces in the collection required extensive reading and close examination, and, sadly some of ABQ's art culture is more about being seen in a gallery rather than seeing the gallery.
I spent a couple hours looking around; these rude fellows spent about ten minutes.

Do not miss a chance to see every exhibition (and program) produced by this stellar organization. The space lends itself to outstanding shows with multiple materials, including video and sound installations. The program is savvy and contemporary and yet it is thoughtful and socially conscious. This is a special place in Albuquerque.

This is a total 'diamond in the rough' in downtown ABQ. The space and artwork are second-to-none and if you're looking for your fix of great contemporary art, you need to go no further. There are a few other nice galleries and coffeeshops nearby so you can spend a while wondering through the area. This is a nice way to experience the 'artsy' side of Downtown!

Went here to see about a grant they are offering and was really taken by the different art mediums. The staff are kind and really helpful.
