(A.B.I) American Barber Institute is licensed by New York State Department of Education. State of the art two floor facility is used for hands on practical training. We are one of the largest and most modern looking school of its type in the New York City
500 HOUR MASTER BARBER PROGRAM
Our 500 hour Master Barber course enables the successful graduate to meet the minimum requirements to take the NY state board exam for the master barber operator's license. Passage of the NY state board exam allows an abundance of employment opportunities in the up and coming barbering industry, and qualifies the license holder to own a barbershop, in which he or she can employ individuals as apprentice barbers.
In our program, our future barbers receive approximately 17 weeks of instruction. Out of those 17 weeks of instruction, they complete two weeks of barber theory which includes (but is not limited to) instruction on HIV/Sanitation, "proper barber etiquette", and basic knowledge of equipment/tools. After our students complete theory, they are then transferred to our practical floor where they will be for fifteen weeks. The practical portion focuses tremendously on hands on training and gives the students the ability to cut hair on clients as they would do in a barbershop setting.
We can confidently say that after our students complete their time on the practical floor, they will be proficient in all necessary hair styling techniques, shaving practices and protocols, and in depth preparation for the NY State Master Barber Operator's exam.
Barbering offers an opportunity to earn an exceptional income. Many barbers are their own boss, and get paid every day. Many barbers earn more than individuals with a 4 year college degree. The opportunity for an above average income potential can be yours. As a Barber you decide how hard you want to work and how much you want to earn. We are so invested in our future barbers that we help our graduates with job placement and we make it our priority to help facilitate information between our graduates and prospective barbershops/salons that are hiring.
